Can we instead shift the convo to insane interest rates? Cut rates to at/just above FED lending and you'll cut payment time and monthly payments. It'll save thousands while still emphasizing the point.
The Supreme Court has rejected President Biden’s student loan forgiveness program, an initiative aimed at providing debt relief to millions of student-loan borrowers.
3% SSA for next year.
Since 2011 it's been at 3% only once. The previous 38 years...SSA was below 3% only 6 times.
Gov praises a commitment of over $1b to public schools in the last decade. Forgets to share the $1b commitment over 4 years with ESAs to private schools...
11 years of systemic attacks on Public Education finally culminate as ESAs pass. Tough day in Iowa. We will continue to fight for ALL kids, because they deserve it and they are worth fighting for!
Usually don’t get political, but anyone who thinks the voucher bill is “school choice” and good for low SES and at-risk students/families in Iowa have been fooled. Special interest and the wealthy won in this bill being passed. This bill was for the “haves” not the “have nots”.
The start of the year is always filled with the perfect amount of chaos. Through all the noise, through all the confusion, let's remember...
"The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing." -Stephen Covey
Our main thing? Kids.
Sometimes in the heat of the moment, we lose sight of ourselves and our purpose. Recently reflected on the excitement of my first teaching interview and classroom. Never forget why you showed up in the first place...Education matters, its the great equalizer.

Iowa Senate: 2.25%, Iowa House: 2.5%, I'm anticipating the Governor will align with the House. Sadly, its half of what schools need. There's plenty of budget here, this is about power. Dont let the Appropriations bill fool you, just more distrust in Public Ed.
SSA increase & actual costs. 3% is $119.3M and 4% is $168.1M There is room in the budget between commitments & revenue of $689M, including the Governor’s proposed tax cuts. Schools can be properly funded in a high inflation environment & taxes cut. Please call your Legislators.
Its still early, but man, this still hurts. SSA technically helps everyone's agenda. I hate the voucher proposal, but come on, SSA increase even helps that too, why not put a positive foot forward for the sake of our youth?! This won't even cover inflation...
Senate Education Committee bill calls for 2.25% increase in SSA. They have no trouble finding money for private schools, but continue to starve public schools. @Iowans4PublicEd
Is this our best effort? Shortage is real, yes and we need the next gen! Let's not forget how retention of staff plays into this dynamic. We need to address the elephant in the room, people are leaving ed...good people...profession crisis at hand. https://t.co/SGG2jLD3u7
If only the public truly saw public education for what it is...a bunch of imperfect souls, dedicating their work to the betterment of their communities and the families and students within them. Nothing sinister, just people doing the best they can with what they have!
When the Armorer told Mando, “Persistence without insight will lead to the same outcome,” she was referencing the power of self-reflective habits.
