Today marked a historic display of political courage from the Trump administration.

For decades, we have known that the explosion of highly processed food, refined carbohydrates, and added sugar in our diets was the chief cause of America facing the highest chronic disease rates in the world.

Americans don’t want to be sick - bad government recommendations and bad incentives have caused this.

Today, the government finally told the American people the truth.
❌AVOID highly processed food (which is 70% of a child’s diet).
❌AVOID refined carbohydrates.
❌AVOID added sugar and sugary drinks.
✅CELEBRATE REAL FOOD (a position the Dietary Guidelines have never taken).

The document released today, which impacts dozens of government procurement programs and puts a stake in the ground that America must change its diet, is the most important public health document in modern American history.

It also represents historic and inspiring collaboration between HHS and USDA.

This will result in more available and affordable healthy food for all Americans.

A goal was the make this a scientifically rigorous and uniting document. We all need to come together on this mission. This spirit was represented by the head of the American Medical Association attending the briefing - the organization has made substantive commitments and will be working closely with the administration to PUT REAL FOOD at the center of medicine.
