It's 9pm local time in London, everyone in the Royal Box has left the building, and the camera pans to the one person who stayed to watch the last match of the day...
Roger Federer, the winningest men's champion in Wimbledon history.
Cinema.
ppl are so overly negative about the UK vs reality.
- 4 of top 10 universities globally
- third largest VC market globally behind only USA, China. 1/3 of all VC in europe
- powerhouse in creative industries - second largest music exporter in the world
- largest biotech ecosystem in europe - massive growth sector in the coming years
- London is the top western hub for AI after Silicon Valley.
- excellent financial services base and broader services economy. Number one for FX, number two for PE and Hedge Funds
- produces 20% of global offshore wind
TLDR UK is overwhelmingly a top 3 or top 5 player globally across finance, law, defence, biotech, clean energy, creative industries, and tech (especially AI)
We are incredibly well positioned for the future.
We have a number of problems we need to fix - I believe we will do so.
Extremely bullish on this country
@owenjonesjourno He doesn’t get that if someone replaces Starmer it’ll be someone who is either from a different ideological background, is more charismatic.
The thing is, Streeting is neither. He’s got the same negative traits as Starmer. Just somehow even less genuine and experienced!
@implausibleblog Not everyone has the euro, so this isn’t 100% necessary.
Free movement with Schengen depends on agreement with Ireland.
No rebate is fair.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but the only opt-out we had other than the ones I’ve already discussed was police and justice.
@nyngje9G @TheGreenParty Countries outside of the EU are in the customs union. Switzerland, Norway etc. many Brexiteers campaigned for Brexit on us remaining in the customs union
@dylzyy1@TheGreenParty Most of the deals are almost identical copies of free trade agreements Europe made. + free trade with Europe outweighs other trading partners in economic significance

@_BoldPolitics I honestly think it’s his framing of these issues as ‘affordability’ instead of ‘inequality’ that was one of his greatest assets. Inequality makes it sound like you could be able to afford something but you can’t where as affordability makes you think it’s the system.
Code-switching refers to the alternation between two or more languages, dialects, or accents within a single conversation or context, often to adapt to one's audience for better rapport or clarity. It's common among bilingual or multicultural individuals, like shifting from a formal American English to a regional dialect when addressing peers from the same background. This isn't deception but a natural linguistic flexibility rooted in social norms.
@faggenabler@HellsSpawnWorld@FlagBlack007 No. Frank got a $20m upfront on his visual album, which the label wasn’t cut in for in his contract.
He got all of the $20m, the label didn’t get any residual royalties, he got out of his contract and even got them to fund the real album because he made it at the same time.
@forfunfunny What do you use to determine an album to be an album of a year?
Also Taylor Swift doesn’t have a doctoral degree. She got an honorary degree which doesn’t involve any studying rather an evaluation of her cultural contribution being significant.
