⚠️ Confirmed: Metrics show a major disruption to internet connectivity in Pakistan-administered Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The shutdown comes ahead of protests as authorities use anti-terrorism powers to ban the Joint Awami Action Committee and is likely to limit coverage of events.
Hey, just to be clear, this is an issue the same way #slavery is. Just because I don't have an immediate solution to stop it now doesn't mean the things should be accepted and ignored
@ChShersh Uhm, true... but it's like saying every marathon is just going for a run if you're a marathon runner
I think it more insults the runner than me who can't run
🎓 The #Iran internet blackout has entered its 62nd consecutive day after 1464 hours, with the general public broadly cut off from the world.
Beyond human rights and economic impacts, the measure severely hinders schooling and higher education by decimating access to knowledge.
Would appreciate if anybody has any ideas on these questions!
1) Do you have a model that runs better on GPU but you’d rather run it on a CPU? If yes why? Maybe cost? Any other reasons?
2) Is there a model that is CPU and GPU friendly at the same time? If yea, what is it?
The IRGC and MOIS greatly appreciate the efforts of Siavash Ardalan for pinning the blame for the Iran Internet Shutdown on the war (and pinning the war on the anti-regime diaspora). I'm not sure if he directly has an agency handler or is guided by cues from specific X accounts, but it's clear the talking points originate from the regime.
So let me, an expert on the matter of Iranian Internet Censorship, break it down for everyone.
Does it make sense for a war to cause an Internet shutdown?
It depends, if telecoms and cloud infrastructure was targeted, sure that would cause an outage. In this case, the internet shutdown in Iran was a deliberate decision made by the Regime, not an outage. There are no internet shutdowns in the USA or Israel, despite them also being a part of the war.
If war was the reason for the internet shutdown, surely a ceasefire would restore the internet, right?
The regime is not so kind to its people. It doesn't matter that there are no bombs falling. The internet is still almost entirely shut down. The ceasefire has been in effect for weeks, and yet the total internet shutdown is entering its 57th day.
There was a shutdown back in January, but there was no war back then. Why is that?
As I'm sure it's becoming abundantly clear at this point, internet shutdowns are unrelated to war. Shutdowns are a suppression technique used by the regime to crack down on the Iranian people, a tool to preserve the regime. The internet shutdown in January was the regime's response to the civil uprising. During that internet shutdown, the regime killed upwards of 40,000 protesters.
If there really was a total internet shutdown, then why are there Iranian accounts active on X?
Many leaked documents and information gathered from various sources reveal that a total and continued internet shutdown (the establishment of a domestic intranet) has been in the works for many years. And that select government spokespeople, businesses, and regime-vetted so-called "journalists" would be given elevated and maybe even uncensored access to the outside global internet. Many active Iranian social media accounts that may be spreading regime propaganda are using elevated-tiered internet access, which the Iranian public has come to call "white SIM cards".
So don't let Siavash fool you. He wants you to believe the diaspora caused the war, and the war caused the internet shutdown. Implying that the diaspora caused the internet shutdown. Demonising the diaspora is currently one of the regime's active operations as it fights to control the narrative and co-opt the voice of the Iranian people.
Whether or not Europe stands with us, whether or not your journalists do their jobs, whether or not your politicians demonstrate the courage to act, I will fight for my people and my country.
📉 #Iran's internet shutdown has entered its 52nd day after 1224 hours. Metrics show that the general public remain cut off from international networks, while authorities continue efforts to segregate users and provide selective access to favored groups.
The censorship evading fight between users and #Iran firewall is in rapid evolution and very technically deep.
I believe the firewall will soon fail, but two words to those keeping firewall standing now: Fuck you
#DigitalBlackOutIran
🗓️ #Iran has now been isolated from the global internet for seven weeks with the digital blackout entering its 50th day after 1176 hours.
Metrics show the measure, unprecedented for a connected society, continues to the detriment of most Iranians' livelihoods and human rights.
