Major Update: OND 2026 Rainy Season in #Kenya

One of the key parameters that we use to know when the OND rainy season will begin is the consistent emergence of rain bands in Eastern Ethiopia, Somali Land & Somalia.
These bands normally indicate a southward shift of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) from the Sahel & Ethiopian highlands into Equatorial Africa, including KE. They also signify a change in the direction and strength of the Indian Ocean trade winds, bringing to an end the West Indian Ocean Monsoon. Tropical disturbances in the Indian Ocean are also something to watch.
The August multi-model super-ensemble runs are out and it's now clearer, than ever before, that there will be an early onset of pre-seasonal rains this time round particularly in Somalia, North Eastern KE & the Kenyan Coastal strip in Sept 2026. Northern parts of TZ coastal strip may also witness pre-seasonal rains next month. These rains are expected to intensify quickly & spread out to other parts of KE from early Oct and continue to drench the lands all the way to Jan 2027.
Global multimodel ensemble charts project above-average rains in Sept in these regions, with up to 20mm in excess of the long term mean in some places.
These rains are coming at a time when a record breaking strong El Nino is firmly established in the Equatorial Pacific & the IOD is entering a positive phase, meaning they could easily turn into a catastrophe.
Short-range & sub-seasonal range model forecasts will tell us the exact onset hours & dates in the coming weeks.

Kenyans confuse and conflate these terms:

“Government” with “State.”

“Public” with “Government.”

Government is NOT State.

Government owns nothing; it’s the Public that owns land and other assets.

Governments come and go but the State and The Public stay.

A political party may win periodic elections and be in charge of Government for the period it’s elected or in power, but it finds and leaves the State and The Public intact.

A State may collapse or dissolve from internal strife, conquest or revolutionary configurations, but The Public doesn’t.

However, THE PUBLIC comprises of DISTINCT PEOPLE(S) and NATIONS (which are vulgarly referred to as Tribes or Ethnic Groups).

The NATIONS or PEOPLES may relocate, migrate, or rename themselves, but they are the only SOVEREIGN with true OWNERSHIP of LAND, natural resources and assets within the State.

Embrace the use of words such as PUBLIC PROPERTY, PUBLIC LAND, and PUBLIC OFFICE—not government property, government land and government office. The former are words of empowerment and affirmation while the latter represents a deeply colonized language and world view.

The debate on the Election date is getting interesting because people have always worked with terms based calendar years which are not mentioned in the Constitution (other than in the case of MCAs). But it is pretty a straight forward matter which we should have settled with the previous election which in essence complicated the count.

Let’s use Article 259 (5c): “In calculating time between two events for any purpose under this Constitution, if the time is expressed… as years, the period of time ends at the beginning of the date of the relevant year that corresponds to the date on which the period began.”

1st year: August 9, 2022 to August 9, 2023
2nd year: August 9, 2023 to August 9, 2024
3rd year: August 9, 2024 to August 9, 2025
4th year: August 9, 2025 to August 9, 2026
5th year: August 9, 2026 to August 9, 2027

This means that for the current electoral term, “Second Tuesday of August in the 5th year” falls on August 11, 2026.

Good thing is that the High Court suspended the judgement to allow IEBC to correct the anomaly after the 2027 election.

For years, I have held that Kenya doesn’t have a five year electoral cycle.

As the Court has declared, the election after the 2022 one should be held next week not 2027.

Because the decision is suspended in regards to 2027, this means the next one will be 2031 not 2032.
