Shane McGuigan on 5 Live commentary last night calling out Joshua’s corner advice and ultimately predicting what will happen in the following round.
Incredible insight.
32 years ago today, Des Lynam takes us through the new World Cup rules and instructions before USA ‘94 began.
Some of the changes include:
3 points for a win in group matches.
3 substitutes now allowed.
Referees no longer wearing black.
Simpler times.
16 years ago today:
England vs USA at the World Cup.
And one of the worst blunders in ITV’s history, as they accidentally cut to an advert whilst Steven Gerrard opens the scoring…
I watched the full match of Italy vs Ireland from USA ‘94 on ITVX earlier.
One thing that stood out: Brian Moore’s commentary.
He was absolutely outstanding. The dynamics, tempo and texture of his delivery were a joy. Big Ron also complimented him perfectly.
How he is missed.
It’s 40 years to the day since England beat Poland 3-0 at the World Cup.
But when the game was goalless, they received a wonderful dressing down from Barry Davies…
An interview with Bobby Robson on the morning of England’s opening match of Italia ‘90 against Ireland, 36 years ago today.
Here Robson thinks his players will be fine providing none of them are ‘fluffy.’
Could listen to the great man all day. ❤️
On this day at Euro ‘88:
Nobody in the BBC commentary box knows who’s been subbed off at half-time for Denmark.
Listen carefully here as Barry Davies loses his rag, before expertly changing his voice in time for Emilio Butragueño’s goal.
Superb stuff.
On this day in 2006, England kicked off their World Cup campaign against Paraguay.
And in the BBC’s build-up to the match, Ray Stubbs managed to get a few words with Freddie Flintoff and Steve Harmison…
Today marks 29 years since the England men’s team last lifted any sort of ‘silverware.’
So here’s captain Alan Shearer, picking up the trophy for Le Tournoi.
What dreams are made of…
On David Platt’s 60th birthday, a look at why he is one of the greatest ever English goalscoring midfielders.
Here are all of his 27 international goals, in order, crammed into 140 secs.
Platt was incredibly reliable in an England shirt.
Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s bought the book so far. ❤️
Seeing your photos of it in people’s hands, on coffee tables and on summer holidays has meant the world.
And if you’ve enjoyed it, a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review on Amazon would be hugely appreciated.

On this day in 1993, a lightning bolt lost ITV their pictures near the end of England’s humiliating 2-0 defeat to the USA.
Here a surprised Matt Lorenzo and Ron Atkinson have to wing it in the studio until they get the feed back.
The joys of live telly.
30 years ago today:
Euro ‘96 begins and Paul Gascoigne turns on the style with a perfectly weighted rabona pass against Switzerland.
Pure football genius.
Fantastic little review of ‘Get Ready For This’ from this month’s issue of @LateTackle Magazine.
Huge thanks to John Lyons for his kind words and rating. ❤️
34 years ago this weekend, ITV gave us a preview of the new song for their Euro ‘92 coverage.
‘You Are The Number One’ remained as the music of the network’s live football matches for the next three years.
An absolute banger.
On this day in 1990, Top Of The Pops went live to the England camp in Sardinia, as ‘World In Motion’ reached number one in the UK Charts.
And as you’d expect around this period, Gazza was on top form…
34 years ago today, Saint & Greavsie presented an England schoolboys international live from Wembley.
And just before the match, the duo couldn’t resist having one last dig at Sky, for taking the brand new Premier League away from ITV…

It’s 27 years to the day since Paul Scholes’ crazy red card against Sweden.
Here he gets away with a horrendous challenge on Hakan Mild in the opening minute, before two rash tackles on Stefan Schwarz seal his fate.
Extraordinary scenes at Wembley.
