Donald Trumpโs threats seem to be stirring a kind of patriotic resolve in Canada that is showing itself in everything from widespread scorn for Wayne Gretzkyโs visits to Mar-a-Lago to a rekindled affection for Justin Trudeau. https://t.co/KLFHFyuzlk
This is the most extraordinary geopolitical event in my lifetime and Iโve read and seen nothing in modern American history that even comes close. What an utter disaster.
@atrupar Haha,... a lot? No, not a lot. What is happening is a lot of people are changing plans and avoiding even visiting the US. Also a lot of people are going out of their way to buy Canadian and avoid purchasing US products.
There will be other best-on-best tournaments. There must be. And there will be other victories for Team Canada. But given this time and these players, and the threats to our sovereignty, there may never be another victory like this one. ๐จ๐ฆ
The narrative that the Covid vaccines "didn't work" is one of the most successful disinformation campaigns in history.
They saved millions of lives
Averted millions of hospital admissions
A HUGE success!
@Anthony__Koch Yes they do. They gave us our flag. They gave us the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and were instrumental in legislating same sex marriage rights into law. They also believe in funding the CBC, our national broadcaster. The Cons gave us the GST.
I don't see Harper's prorogation of Parliament in 2008 any different than Trudeau's in 2025. And no, I don't like either. Full stop. BUT to hold Trudeau to a higher standard than Harper is ridiculous. Nothing was done about 2008. It was allowed.
Texting with an American player who asked to remain anonymous.
I asked how he felt about the US anthem being booed. "Don't love it. Makes you kind of cringe to see that."
I then asked what he thought of the continued threats of annexation and the President calling the Canadian PM "Governor"
"Yeah, when you look it at from that side, I wouldn't like another country threatening to swallow up mine (country). Especially one as big as the US. Would probably do more than boo an anthem..."
This is the Trump effect in Canada. All the French's Ketchup bought up, Heinz remains on the shelf. Heinz Ketchup has "Made in the USA" on its label.
[To be fair to Heinz, both companies use tomatoes grown in Canada. But also to be fair, Heinz closed a factory in Canada in 2014 and people never forgot. Heinz has been fighting that bad PR ever since.]
