In February 2021, Jane Helman was laid off, home alone in Canada during a freezing winter, working under a blanket when it knocked over her coffee.

She searched for something more practical — a blanket that looked professional on video calls — found nothing she liked and made one herself using a sewing machine she'd gotten at 12 and never opened.

A stranger asked to buy ten for his employees. A TikTok went viral. Uncommon Goods came calling.

Jane took a job at Shopify to learn ecommerce while developing the product, spent eight months finding a women-owned manufacturer and bootstrapped everything from her own savings.

She quit Shopify in 2023 to go full time. Warmür spent its first few years reaching $150,000 in revenue, then relaunched with a new design in 2025 and generated $200,000 in just six months.

It's now in Uncommon Goods, Walmart, Amazon and Staples Canada — with Oscar nominee gift bags and an Australian expansion in the works — and on track for $1 million in 2026.

Her advice: don't look at the big scary goal. Focus on the first thing first and the next thing next. Business will guide you into growth.
