@pelositracker Same trade every time:
AI infra + Big Tech scale.
IREN = compute & power
GOOGL / META = AI platforms + data
NFLX = cash-flow machine with optional AI upside
Not subtle. Just following where the margins are going.
Why the PhD feels harder than it looks (and why that’s not a flaw)
Most people think a PhD is hard because it’s intellectually demanding.
That’s only part of the story.
The real difficulty is structural.
↓
A lot of today’s discussions around publishing, impact factors, and PhD stress come from things academia never explains upfront.
That’s why I share what I wish I’d been told earlier ⬇️
@mcneiilly That hesitation is healthy. A PhD makes sense if you want to train in uncertainty and deep problem-solving; industry makes sense if you want faster feedback and applied impact. You don’t need to decide forever; only for the next few years.
Most PhD advice focuses on what to do.
Almost none explains what uncertainty feels like, and how to work inside it without burning out.
That gap is where most researchers struggle.
Most of the stress isn’t from the work itself.
It’s from waiting.
Waiting for reviews.
Waiting for funding decisions.
Waiting for contracts.
Waiting for clarity that never fully comes.
You’re expected to plan years ahead in a system that only reveals outcomes months later.
That mismatch is what wears people down.
