Italian-Tunisian singer, Ghali, said “Stop the genocide” during an Italian music festival that broadcast to over 13 million people.

“It’s not since October 7th that this has been happening.

This has been happening for a while now.”

His statement at Sanremo Music Festival has sparked national conversation and protest against one-sided, pro-Israel bias in Italian media.

Israel’s ambassador to Italy, Alon Bar, considered that Ghali’s call to ‘stop the genocide’ is “spreading hatred and provocation”, and regretted that he did not mention “the 360 young people murdered and raped during the Nova Music Festival”.

Ghali responds and says: “people are increasingly afraid of saying stop the war, stop the genocide, because they feel they are losing something if they say long live peace, it’s absurd”.

Today marks the eleventh anniversary of the assassination of politician Chokri Belaid.

Belaid was assassinated on February 6, 2013, in front of his home, in Tunis, at the age of 49. His assassination was followed by the July 2013 assassination of Mohamed Brahmi, a representative from the National Constituent Assembly.

Both constituted a milestone in the history of Tunisia after the fall of the regime of the late President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. Such was the depth of emotions following the assassinations, that they led to divisions within Tunisian society and an exchange of accusations between political parties.

A knife attack took place yesterday on a Tunisian dentist in Mannheim, Germany, allegedly carried out by a German man in suspected racist attack.

Tunisian Embassy in Berlin announced on Facebook, that the news was “shocking.” The Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following-up on this incident with the German authorities and urging for accountability.
