For over a decade, I have passed by #PattandurAgraharaLake in our neighbourhood (Whitefield). It used to be one of the spots for birdwatching. Yes!

Today, the lake survives only on Google Maps. All the trees have been cut down and moved away in trucks. It’s just a barren land now and a compound wall came up in no time.

The other side of the lake is an even bigger story. No one knows whether it has been encroached upon or whether it is still a lake!!

Bengaluru-based entrepreneurs Abhimanyu Rathi and Yogendra Panchal have solved one of India's biggest problems.

Indian farmers used to burn their crop leftovers after every harvest. Now a Bengaluru startup is paying farmers not to burn it.

The residue is heated in low-oxygen conditions and turns into biochar, a carbon-rich material that locks carbon underground instead of releasing it into the air.

This climate benefit is sold as carbon credits to companies. Farmers can earn Rs 30,000–45,000 extra every year from waste they used to throw away.

Over 200 farmers are already in the system. This can be a game changer for Delhi pollution.
