The AI Scientist is far from perfect. Occasionally it makes embarrassing citation errors. Here, it incorrectly attributed “an LSTM-based neural network” to Goodfellow (2016) rather than to the correct authors, Hochreiter & Schmidhuber (1997).

The phrase "whole career" is particularly accurate.

1. Pick a difficult technology area. Anything: Flying cars, quantum computing, interstellar travel, nuclear fusion, hypersonic flight, AI, whatever.
2. Complain that "current approaches are hitting a wall and will never work." Write a book about that.
3. Do not propose any solution, beyond very vague proposals.
4. Whenever a breakthrough occurs, minimize its significance and move the goal post.
5. Whenever a setback occurs, scream "Aha, I said so 15 years ago in my book."
6. Whenever Researcher X proposes a new method to lift the limitations of current methods, claim "X now agrees with me that a new paradigm was needed"

Astronomy has astrology.
Geophysics has flat-earth beliefs.
Chemistry had (has?) alchemy.
Evolutionary biology has creationism.

AI now has AGI existential risk.

Maybe it’s a sign of maturing as a field.
