@annelenjah@pavyg Smith is on the list and will be commentating as much as ever, I’m sure. There’s no name that surprises me, it’s business as usual. I think maybe someone (Agassi?) didn’t want to co-commentate with Castle, he’s been given a less prominent role and spinning that it’s a ‘refresh’
@kelvmackenzie Castle is not my cup of tea at all and I’ve no idea how he came to be the go-to commentator for the marquee matches at Wimbledon. Saying that, I have no expectation that whoever replaces him will be an improvement
@emerald_229@helenbhans Don’t remember hearing Fleming on commentary for years except perhaps on outside courts at Wimbledon- certainly find him infinitely preferable to Castle
@nathans784@babolaracke@QueensTennis True, but last year there were two singles matches on Court 1 Monday (Monfils-McDonald and Bautista Agut-Borges). I don’t exactly know the pricing difference between Mon and Tue but seems a very strange scheduling decision to have 4 singles on Mon and 12 on Tue
@leerufford@QueensTennis Ridiculous! 4 singles Mon and 12 on Tuesday- it was bad enough last year with a 6 and 10 split. May as well play Boomtown Rats’ ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ at the changeovers 😖
They can see no reasons cos there are no reasons! Even if you’re a doubles fan the matches on 1&5 clash 🙄
@TennisUpdates26 Queen’s order of play seems bizarre- 4 singles on Monday, so 12 on Tuesday
I checked what happened last year and it was 6 singles Monday and 10 Tuesday
I would be fuming if I had ground ticket and forced to watch doubles matches (each will clash with another doubles anyway)!
@TheTennisTalker Huhwhat!! I really miss Peter Fleming and his dry humour - give me him over 90% of the other pundits. Do they still employ him? They should.
@TheTennisTalker I’m looking at the Nottingham draw and thinking overall it looks at least as appealing as Queens (and doubtless a lot cheaper). Granted there’s no Rybakina or Anisimova but there’s Krejcikova, Navarro, Maria and being a 32-draw not a 28-draw also helps it feel more substantial
@Sara447537013@TheTennisTalker Exactly- I’m glad for her she has managed to forge this career after her terrible injury problems but she doesn’t exactly exude competence and professionalism
I find it hard to believe she’s all that involved in the nuts and bolts of organising the event
@SusanJardine16@TheTennisTalker To be fair to LR, she’s not been on screen this week, has she?
She was however presenting for TNT sports until late on in French Open fortnight and to be honest most of the decisions about the organisation and scheduling will be probably made by committee not the ex-player TD
@JackxJewell@ninjaga20 I was there Monday too - so frustrating and am I being unfair in saying that umpire seemed to have wedged her bum in the chair so they couldn’t get the covers across before the court had got sodden wet?!
@olivcorn@PaulCoffield4@MattFutterman exactly- plus with a 28-draw including 4 wild cards and 6 qualifiers it’s very easy for the defending champion to miss out on the 18 direct acceptance places
@JuiKooi52565@TheFirstServeAU I can’t imagine Robson’s even that involved in the organisation - she’s spent the majority of last two weeks presenting Roland Garros for TNT Sports!
@MJ26Peace@josemorgado@the_LTA Yes, but the wildcards at Wimbledon are very lucrative, plus Eastbourne and Queens - they should have given one of the four to Maria - I didn’t appreciate Keothavong and Broady making out she was acting ‘entitled’ especially given all the wildcards they received in their careers
@JackBon60290058@WTA@Maria_Tatjana I would so love to see Tatjana win this again
Terrible decision and it was sickening to listen to Keothavong and Broady on BBC backing the policy of giving all the wild cards to Brits!
@AmethystShining I’m sure that Keothavong (and Broady) felt ‘entitled’ to their annual Wimbledon wildcard despite never getting past R2
These are gaslighting comments that Maria doesn’t merit- and she hasn’t made a huge issue of it. There are only 18 DA’s, one wild card should have been hers
