I stumbled upon an article outlining the history of key players in the digital video industry that enabled DJI to be the kingpin of high quality digital video transmission, with hopes that it could inspire someone to build an American alternative. Here's what I learned:
> DJI’s early drones (Phantom 2 and 3) transmitted video over standard WiFi
> DJI introduced Lightbridge to provide longer range and HD video in 2014
> Lightbridge adapted WiMAX technology into a custom long-range link for HD video, telemetry, and control
> Early Lightbridge hardware used an FPGA
> Later versions replaced the FPGA with Artosyn radio and processing chips in 2015
> Important note: Artosyn remains a major supplier behind emerging digital FPV systems today
> DJI then began using Leadcore’s mobile processors and LTE technology in 2016
> The Mavic Pro introduced OcuSync, powered primarily by Leadcore chips. Ocusync made the video link smaller, more efficient, and more reliable
> DJI later created custom Leadcore-derived P1 and S1 chips... These custom chips reduced FPV latency to below 30 milliseconds
> Leadcore faded around 2018, but its technology continued elsewhere
> Artosyn continued developing affordable chipsets for long-range digital video transmission
> Its AR803X chipset and KAP-supported reference designs power FPV systems recently sold by BetaFPV, HGLRC, Skyzone, and other brands
> This allows smaller companies to launch HD digital FPV products without developing the entire video and radio stack themselves
There's a digital revolution happening right now in the FPV world. Smaller players are getting their hands on high quality digital video links. America isn't, and it won't, because of FCC and NDAA regulation. If we want to be competitive in the space, an American RF company needs to step up to the plate.

I’ve been working tirelessly to STOP legislation in my state that would ban Cybercab from operating here. I spoke with legislators, wrote an article and got it published in the news. I got the attention of the senator who actually wrote the bill and may have the opportunity to meet with him, and change his mind.
I’m also now working to change federal regulations at NHTSA in USDOT to nullify any other state laws like this and allow Cybercab to operate nationwide.

EXCLUSIVE: Tesla has just officially received approval for its full Autonomous Vehicle Network Company permit in Nevada, clearing the way for Tesla to launch a paid public Robotaxi service in Las Vegas.
This officially allows @Tesla to deploy up to 5,000 robotaxis over the next 12 months. The permit approval covers all of Clark County (which includes Las Vegas), but this approval actually allows Tesla to operate across the entire state of Nevada, according to the commission, as long as Tesla notifies the commission of when they want to expand their geofence.
I just watched live the Nevada Transportation Authority’s entire 4-hour long August 20th General Session meeting, and a few minutes ago the Commission approved Tesla’s permit.
Tesla representatives were at the meeting today, and they said that they won't deploy all 5,000 robotaxis at once in the beginning (obviously), but that this permit approval gives them the flexibility to deploy more vehicles over time. They'll start with a small launch of a few vehicles and then grow from there.
Tesla completed Nevada’s self-certification process for Robotaxi last November, and applied for an Autonomous Vehicle Network Company permit on June 3, 2026. Now with all approvals, Tesla can begin commercial Robotaxi operations in the state once they complete a few simple administrative things (vehicle inspections, insurance, provide the rates to be charged for transportation, etc). That should happen within the next 30 days.
To be clear, today's approval is separate from the interim operating order Tesla previously received, which limited its robotaxi fleet to just 10 vehicles. Today’s approval replaces that previous interim operating order, and authorizes a fleet of up to 5,000 fully autonomous vehicles.
