At 3:20 AM in India, history has been written. Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa is the Champion of Grand Chess Tour 2026 - and he is the first Indian player to do so! Pragg defeated Fabiano Caruana 15-13 in the Grand Chess Tour Finals at USA.
Praggnanandhaa's name should be synonymous with perseverence at this point. Its been close to a month since Pragg has been playing at the Saint Louis Chess Club in USA - first winning the Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz, then finishing 2nd at the Sinquefield, and now winning the GCT finals to win Grand Chess Tour 2026!
The road to the Championship was certainly not easy. Pragg lost the first classical game, and drew the second one - he had to cover a 6 point deficit. And he did - he won both the Rapid games to take back the lead, and kept his nerve in the Blitz. A draw in the final game was enough, and thats what Pragg did to secure the Grand Chess Tour title.
A huge congratulations to Praggnanandhaa, his team and his family for this incredible achievement - Pragg takes home USD 200,000!

I would like to dedicate this win to @GmNaroditsky. It was one of his favourite tournaments. We have played endless bullets and hyperbullets, which definitely contributed to my growth as a player.
Congratulations! It's a proud moment for chess, a proud moment for India, a proud moment for WACA, and for me, a very personal moment of pride. Ding played a very exciting match and showed the champion he is.

I am unable to accept the absence of Ratan Tata.
India’s economy stands on the cusp of a historic leap forward.
And Ratan’s life and work have had much to do with our being in this position.
Hence, his mentorship and guidance at this point in time would have been invaluable.
With him gone, all we can do is to commit to emulating his example. Because he was a businessman for whom financial wealth and success was most useful when it was put to the service of the global community.
Goodbye and Godspeed, Mr. T
You will not be forgotten.
Because Legends never die…
Om Shanti

GM @viditchess Gujrathi was not on the top of tier lists/winner predictions of Candidates 2024. It's hard to predict how will he finish the event, but he's off to a great start. In the 2nd round, Vidit Gujrathi defeated the World no.3, Hikaru Nakamura with the Black pieces!
This was simply a phenomenal game from Vidit. It all started from the novelty 8...c6 - kudos to his seconds! Soon afterwards, Vidit sacrificed a full piece with 11..Bxh3. Nakamura declined the sacrifice with 12.Nc4, which turned out to be the decisive error.
Vidit went on to play a picture-perfect game, creating a devastating attack on the White King. He won the game in just 29 moves - this is the strongest opponent Vidit has beaten in classical chess in his career so far!
With this strong win against one of the tournament favorites, Vidit moves to 1.5/2 points. He will face his compatriot, R. Praggnanandhaa with the White pieces in the 3rd round!
