JP MORGAN HAS CLOSED ITS #SILVER SHORTS IN A HISTORIC MOVE.
OTHER BANKS ARE COVERING TOO.
THEY’RE ALL COVERING BEFORE THEY HAD TO REVEAL HOW ‘SHORT’ 🍆 THEY ACTUALLY WERE.
In My opinion
MNRE advisory is Net positive for the Indian solar sector in the medium-to-long term, even if it causes short-term pain and panic ☀
It differentiates Horses 🐎 and Donkeys 🫏
🏷The overcapacity problem is True
India already has ~150 GW of module capacity for ~30–35 GW of annual demand. Another 100+ GW is under construction or announced.
Almost all of it is about Module-only ☀ (buy cells from China → assemble → sell). Margins have collapsed to 3–8 %, many plants are running at 30–40 % utilization, and fresh lending was still flowing into more of the same. That’s textbook misallocation of capital and the government finally saying enough ☀
🏷It’s not a ban - it’s a nudge to banks
It is an advisory, not mandatory ☀.
It simply asks banks to be prudent and prioritize the funding for upstream gaps (polysilicon, wafers, and cells) or fully integrated projects.
That’s exactly where India should be spending money if India wants to be self-reliance instead of 95 % import-dependent on cells. Capital will now chase the right kind of capacity instead of zombie assembly lines ☀
🏷Winners and losers are now clearly defined
⏺Winners - anyone building ingot-wafer-cell capacity (Waaree, Premier Energies, RenewSys etc)
⏺Transitional winners - Module-only players who quickly pivot to cells or integrate backward (Insolation energy and Vikram Solar) and Websol pivoted to Cells
⏺Losers - Pure module assemblers with no cell plans and high debt (many small / private players who just wanted to just score the goal in gap 😀).
🏷EPC Players are largely unaffected
Cheaper modules (because of overcapacity) actually help EPC / IPP margins ☀ (EPC Players like - Oriana, Bondada, KPI Green Energy etc and IPP players like Adani Green, JSW Energy, NTPC etc)
Demand isn’t going away as India still needs 40–50 GW of new solar every year to hit 500 GW non-fossil by 2030. The letter even says project execution should not be hampered ☀
🏷Short-term volatility is sure but it’s temporary
The panic selling (some solar stocks down 20–50 %) is a classic overreaction ☀ to a leaked advisory that most people didn’t read properly.
Once the market digests that (a) it’s not a ban, (b) its pro-upstream, and (c) demand is intact, the stronger names will recover sharply.
🥂 Bottom line
Short-term Painful painful but the sector was heading towards 2022-China-style bad phase.
MNRE just pulled the emergency brake before hundreds of thousands of crores got trapped in stranded module lines ☀
Rather than 6–12 months ago, today if I have to choose, then following options 👇🏻
I’d rather own integrated / upstream solar manufacturing players (Waaree Energies or Premier Solar) strong IIP players (Adani Green or KPI Green or ACME Soalr) or strong EPC players (Oriana or Bondada) where it doesn’t depend on government funding.
As per recent Concall Oriana changing its business mix from solar dependence to BESS, Data centres and Green Hydrogen 👍
Bondada has business mix of Soalr, Telecom, Railways, Data centres which can dilute the risk 👍
The weak players are being shaken out at exactly the right time.
@faltooinvestor@DellAnnaLuca Bhai tum samjate acha ho..with proof.. seems sad with weakness in hbl or kernex..
Building conviction good ...
Keep it up...
the Sensex to gold ratio in USD terms for last 25 years has always respected its boundaries. 4 times in last 25 years the ratio touched 0.20
2003- US iraq war aftermath and Sars
2009- lehaman
2013- taper tantrum
2020- covid
2025- wars/trump etc etc
today we stand again near the lows of this ratio. the recovery in equities has always been V shaped or close to it.
We should see the reversal of money flowing from gold/silver to equities especially India. When liquidity returns, everything goes up.
Imo, this is again a very good opportunity to stay invested or increase allocation in Indian equities. Capital rotation is coming.
