Bengaluru: BESCOM on Saturday undertook a citywide cleanliness drive under its 'Clean Up Bengaluru' campaign, removing defunct electrical equipment obstructing footpaths.

From August 1 to 8, the utility worked on 356 poles, 10 transformer centres & 199 other infrastructure works, besides modifying 323 GS operating rods. It also cleaned 1,730 DTC yards, 411 RMU yards and 383 spun pole/DP yards. The drive covered several areas, including Yelahanka, Hebbal, Whitefield, Bellandur & HSR Layout.

Under the directions of Hon. Minister Sri @thekjgeorge, BESCOM has joined the Freedom from Waste campaign and is taking action on the ground.

On August 8 and 9, the MD and senior officers are leading an intensive JCB drive to clear waste and debris around BESCOM’s electrical installations in public spaces.

I hope BESCOM’s sense of responsibility inspires every other agency to look at its own spaces and do the same.

Together, let’s #JustCleanBengaluru for a Better Bengaluru.

Greater Bengaluru Authority's footpath encroachment clearance drive has cleared 490 km of footpaths across five city corporations between July 1 and July 10.

West Corporation led with 122.62 km, followed by North (115.35 km), South (94.01 km), East (88.42 km) & Central (70.15 km). @GBA_office

🌿 Footpath Cleaning Drive

The Bengaluru Central City Corporation carried out a footpath cleaning drive near Gopalan Signature Mall on Old Madras Road, clearing overgrown weeds, grass, and unwanted vegetation along the sides of the footpath.

This initiative is being undertaken regularly to ensure safe and hassle-free movement for pedestrians while maintaining the city's cleanliness and enhancing its overall appearance.

Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) continued its footpath encroachment clearance drive for the fourth consecutive day on July 4.

16 km of footpaths were cleared across Zones 1 and 2. The drive removed 24 shops, 51 push carts, 90 sheets/canopies, 60 steps/ramps and 86 advertisement boards. With 6 JCBs, 31 tractors and 134 workers, authorities cleared 73 tonnes of waste to improve pedestrian safety & accessibility @BNCCofficial

Not just encroachment removal. We have also started repair of damages to the footpaths to improve walkability. We will spend ₹ 70 CR on repairs to footpaths.

@dpkBopanna I hope Bennigahalli Metro station footpaths are in his plan. Tin Factory Junction is an interchange for Metro, intercity, and local buses from 5 directions, with very high footfall.

It's chaotic with buses crisscrossing, people crossing roads for buses, parked buses & vendors.

The Bennihahalli Metro station remains the key cog in the system. The footpaths need to be cleared on both sides.

It is a busy junction for changes for travelers using public transport from 4-5 directions, with very high footfall. KR Pura Metro does not serve buses toward ITI.

Bengaluru Development Minister @krishnabgowda conducted a late-night inspection of Outer Ring Road from Lowry Junction to Silk Board to review the proposed 17.1-km corridor redevelopment & ongoing pedestrian clearance drive.

He said inspection would help refine the project design before public consultations.

The minister ordered action against footpath encroachments, hanging BESCOM cables & poor road maintenance, directed uniform design of bus bays, footpaths and service roads & reprimanded officials over potholes and fresh road cutting at Doddanekkundi, asking for immediate restoration and action against unauthorised digging. @GBA_office
