🚨 A Taco Bell cashier in Palatine, Illinois decided that Indian people were subhumans who needed to be killed.
He did not arrive at this conclusion in a vacuum.

For months he watched politicians call Indian visa holders “indentured servants.” He watched propaganda spread across social media about Indians running scams, holding fake degrees, stealing jobs.
He watched online mobs call them roaches, vermin, demon worshippers, filthy invaders.
He watched elected officials stay silent through all of it.

He wrote an eight-page manifesto. He loaded an AR-style rifle. He put on tactical body armor bearing white supremacist patches.
He put gasoline cans in his car.
He drove to the largest Hindu temple in Aurora on Day 1 of Navratri, pulled the trigger, and the gun jammed.

He called his coworker from the car. Said the gun jammed. Sent photos of the rifle. Sent a photo of himself in full tactical gear. Sent the manifesto.
The coworker called the police.

One gun malfunction.
One decent human being.
That is all that stood between a Hindu congregation and a mass shooting and fire on Navratri.

This is what unchallenged hatred produces.

His rifle was loaded with the words you chose not to challenge.

HAF strongly opposes the death sentence imposed on Anojan Sivarasa, a 24-year-old Hindu and Sri Lankan national facing execution in Saudi Arabia over a social media comment deemed blasphemous.

As HAF has long emphasized in its advocacy, blasphemy laws threaten religious freedom and have been used to justify unjust imprisonment and extrajudicial violence. No one should face execution for an expression of opinion, particularly in a case where the reported comment was deleted and an apology was issued.

Protecting religious freedom means safeguarding the right of people of all faiths—and those of no faith—to express themselves without fear of state-sanctioned or extrajudicial violence. Blasphemy laws undermine these fundamental freedoms and deepen divisions between communities rather than foster mutual respect.

HAF calls on Saudi authorities to overturn Sivarasa’s death sentence and ensure that his fundamental rights are protected. We urge the international community to continue pressing for the global repeal of blasphemy laws and for the protection of freedom of expression and conscience for all

It was an inside job!

We’ve watched our @Wikipedia page completely defaced & vandalized for 5 years that rendered @HinduAmerican unrecognizable.

This investigation by @AshleyRindsberg @npovmedia blows the cover off of what appears to be a concerted attack on HAF by a cabal of 4 editors—two of whom are apparently tied to Audrey Truschke & the fringe group, Hindus for Human Rights.

Trangabellam, Kautilya3, Lightex and Shainshah121 are responsible for 80% of the entire content of the HAF wiki page. Who are they?

✅Trangabellam created, protected & shaped Audrey Truschke’s Wikipedia page while they defaced HAF’s with unsubstantiated slurs.

✅Lightex actually disclosed “past work with “Hindus for Human Rights,” created that group’s wiki page (against wiki’s own rules) & then attacked HAF’s wiki page changing the lead to cast HAF as a “far-right nationalist organization.”

✅ Shahinshah121 added false allegations that HAF is “Hindutva” & “under investigation by the DOJ for acting as a foreign agent” while promoting Truschke’s “South Asian Scholars Collective” within hours of it being formed.

✅ Kautilya3, the 2nd most active editor of the HAF page, erased all information that provided an HAF perspective to allegations, including that “HAF has absolutely no links” to various foreign orgs. He then added the line that “HAF repackaged the Hindu nationalist agenda in the language of ‘Hindu rights’ to suit mainstream American politics.”

So I know many will ask, “Why are you crying about this on twitter—do something about it.”

After a terrible terrorist attack in Pahalgam killed innocent Hindu people, Hindu Americans in Los Angeles held a candlelight vigil outside the Pakistan Consulate. They were joined by Jewish friends, Jains, and other local Americans who stood together with them. The group grieved for the 26 people who died and demanded that the attackers be brought to justice. This coming together shows that everyone agrees terrorism is wrong and has no place in our world.
