@umashankarsingh Sad but Spain has multiple past incidents wherein Moroccans had entered Spain through sea route given its close proximity to North African countries like Morocco. Inflation, unemployment etc. are key drivers.
@dmuthuk Muthu ji, interesting take. Data centers consume resources but returns are not proportionate to investment/resources as per info available from multiple sources. There are also reports about massive protests across various locations in the USA (as per info)
The Food industry is lobbying for the Health Star Rating similar to the Nutri Score system. The Consumer Protection groups are asking for the FOPL warnings. The Honourable Supreme Court has directed the FSSAI to get back to the court about the FOPL warnings.
Guess why it is not happening??!! The pressure from the Food industry??!!
The Front-of-pack label(FOPL) warnings are the simplest and most effective way to help people make better food choices in India.
A clear “High in Sugar” or “High in Salt” or "High in Fat" warning takes seconds to understand. No calculations. No nutrition knowledge. Just a simple signal that says, “Think twice.”
The problem with systems like Nutri-Score or Health Star Ratings is that they average everything into one score. A product loaded with sugar can still look “healthy” because it has added protein, fiber, or vitamins.
That’s where warning labels are different.
A sugary breakfast cereal still gets HIGH IN SUGAR, even if fiber and vitamins are added to it.
An instant noodle high in sodium still gets HIGH IN SODIUM even if protein and vitamins are added to it.
A packaged fruit juice with excessive free sugars still gets HIGH IN SUGAR, though it's directly from the fruit.
The unhealthy ingredient isn’t hidden behind a better-looking overall grade when FOPL warnings are used.
For a country as diverse as India, warning labels also work across languages and literacy levels. A bold symbol is easier to recognize than interpreting letters, colors, or star ratings.
Sometimes, the simplest system is the one people actually use.
Please tag @MoHFW_INDIA and @fssaiindia and ask that FOPL warnings are to be implemented with urgency!

I appreciate the remarkable drive led by Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Shri Tukaram Mundhe to ensure the availability of safe and good quality food for all.
Public health must be treated as the highest priority, and it is essential that every stakeholder remains committed to this objective.
Shri Tukaram Mundhe has demonstrated how the same administrative system, when guided by a clear mission and purposeful leadership, can deliver impactful outcomes.
I congratulate him on this commendable initiative and wish him continued success.
@Tukaram_IndIAS@FDA_MAHARASHTRA
Really grateful for the words of encouragement.
Ensuring safe food for every citizen is a collective responsibility, and whatever we have been able to achieve is the result of the dedication of the entire Maharashtra FDA team & the cooperation of responsible stakeholders.
3 key public feedback insights:
The 3 key public feedback points on the Prem Nagar - Nanda Ki Chowki approach road collapse are demands for accountability, deep concerns over construction quality & fears of further disruption and risks to public safety. I strongly support sustainable development but believe that if a project costs Rs 1,000 crore, the full Rs 1,000 crore must be invested in delivering safe & climate-resilient infrastructure. The existing, "You scratch my back & I scratch yours" models are completely unacceptable to me.

Ten students from one government school in Tamil Nadu clear NEET.
Ten students from Iduvampalayam Government Higher Secondary School in Tiruppur district have cleared the NEET 2026 exam and are set to pursue medical education. Coming from ordinary families, this is a remarkable achievement for a government school.
VETRY Trust is an NGO led by T.R. Sivaram. VETRY has supported this school for nearly two decades, adopting it in 2007, improving infrastructure, funding extra teachers, and providing specialised coaching for competitive exams like NEET.
People like Sivaram contribute more to society than a thousand social activists.
India's income tax-filing middle class has grown 7x over the decade ending FY2022-23, but average salaries within the band (Rs 10 to 50 lakh), have remained flat.
This points to lower bargaining power of labour over capital.
The growth is due to more jobs, individuals upgrading their salary category and formalisation of the economy.
Fun fact: the income tax filing rich have not got richer in terms of salary growth.
Even more fun fact: the sub 10 lakh category saw the largest within-category income rise.
(This is only individual income for salaries only)

A pilot assessment in selected private schools in #UttarPradesh found #ultraprocessed#snacks and #sugarydrinks were widely available in #school#canteens, nutrition services were limited, and existing nutrition policies were poorly implemented. The report also says the absence of a legally operational definition of #HFSS foods has weakened enforcement of food regulations.
The report #warns that India could account for more than 11% of the global childhood obesity burden by 2030 if current trends continue. It also estimates that unhealthy diets account for 56.4% of the country's disease burden, with easy access to HFSS foods, aggressive marketing and poor nutrition literacy driving obesity and other diet-related diseases. @timesofindia@ICMRNIN@MoHFW_INDIA@JPNadda
Food adulteration = Crime against society & humanity.
Thank you Prof. M. Srinivas, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, with Shri Rajit Punhani, IAS, CEO, FSSAI, for providing H-Fast Team of Hyderabad Police an opportunity to present strategic policy insights into strengthening the Food Safety Ecosystem in the country.
Appreciate the inputs and insights received from participants across various states in the country.

This is exactly the kind of change India needs. 👏
Today, Karnataka is planning to ban junk food sales near schools while strengthening food safety regulations.
I believe healthy choices should be the easy choices for every child.
I hope every other state follows.

A tree that gives shade and life… now forced to hold our waste.
Our faith shouldn’t come wrapped in plastic. 🌳
Offerings to nature must return to nature but without choking it.
Time to rethink and act how we honour both devotion and the environment.

Imagine if the Hon. Education Minister, #DharmendraPradhan, were an #IT#ProjectManager, and multiple project go-lives under his leadership failed, were delayed, or resulted in major outages. What would an IT company typically do?
1)Continue him in the same role?
2)Put him on a #Performance Improvement Plan (#PIP)?
3)Terminate his employment?
4)Give him a poor performance rating and push for a forced resignation?
This is just a hypothetical comparison. In the IT industry, employees can lose their jobs over performance issues or failed project deliveries. Yet in public life, accountability often works differently, even when there are major controversies or administrative failures.
Should standards of accountability be more consistent across leadership roles?
So happy to see schools teaching children how to read nutrition labels!
A few years ago, very few people in India even looked at the back of a food packet. Today, children are learning how to read nutrition labels in school.
This shows that our health movement is spreading rapidly.
But we still have a long way to go. I won't stop until health becomes a subject of every school's curriculum and every child in India knows how to decode a food label.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me and been a part of the Label Padhega India journey.
Let's make India healthy again!
