Today is National Indigenous Persons Day.
It is a day to celebrate the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis.
It was first celebrated in 1996 after it was proclaimed by Governor General Romeo LeBlanc.
It is a statutory holiday in the NWT and Yukon.
