Some analysis and key takeaways from the chart 🌎Global Apple iPhone Shipment Volume And Market Share 2007-2024F are:
🍏Apple is expected to reach its peak market share 📊 (in terms of volume) of all time in 2024 slightly above the current peak in 2012 as per WSS, TechInsights.
🍏 As per WSS, TechInsights, Apple's market share saw a sudden drop in 2013 from 19% to 15%. One factor is growth of Chinese vendors like Lenovo-Motorola, Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei, ZTE, etc.
🍏Apple has never been ranked #1 for full year in terms of volume shipment. Interestingly, has been in top 3 📊 since 2008 for all the year. This is impressive as it launches much less number of models 📱 📲 compared to other top OEMs who have higher number of launches and diversified portfolio across different price bands.
🍏Lightning cable 🔌 has been a great success for Apple and has given extra cash since people had to buy charger on top. It has been in the business for 11 years compared to the initial 30 pin connector that was there for 5 years. It is difficult to forecast the future but I believe USB type C port to stay longer than predecessors.
🍏If you observe the chart closely, notice that Apple has slowly increased its iPhone product line over time. Started with 1 iPhone 📱 launch per year to now 4 or 5(depending on iPhone SE) 📱 📲 📱 📲 📱 . This showcases that Apple believes in quality over quantity.
🍏Huawei (along with Honor then) surpassed Apple in 2019 and would have been a constant #2 or #1 considering the diversified product portfolio but then trade restrictions happened for the vendor.
🍏Apple is expected to decline in low single digit in 2023 full year in volume sense. Second consecutive year decline for the vendor.
🍏After 2 years of consecutive volume decline, Apple is expected to return to growth in 2024 📈 .
🍏India entered Apple iPhone assembling in 2017 with iPhone SE (which launched in 2016). It was not a key manufacturing market back then but has come a long way now. It is now assembling iPhone 15 and 15 Plus jointly with China. From an year old models to latest models is an achievement.
🍏India is now a key market for Apple both in terms of supply considering cheap labor, incentives on manufacturing and trade relation terms with US, etc. as well as sales considering the unsaturated market, higher population 👯 🤼 and growing disposable income, etc.
