For over a decade, Dr Ganesh from Medicare Hospital, Pune, has seen the mixed emotions when a girl child is born—joy and sorrow in equal measure.

In 2012, he noticed how a girl child was unwelcome, mothers were humiliated, and relatives behaved as if someone had died during the birth of the little one.

Refusing to remain silent in the face of such injustice, Dr Ganesh took a bold stand by launching a campaign to fight female infanticide and gender discrimination. On the very first day of his mission, he was called "crazy" for celebrating the birth of a girl by distributing sweets, but that didn’t deter him.

In the campaign's first year, he waived fees for 130 babies, a gesture that gained nationwide media attention and inspired other doctors to join the cause.

Over the years, Dr Ganesh has delivered more than 2,000 girl babies for free, earning heartfelt gratitude from parents. His mission continues to celebrate the true value of every girl child, embodying the phrase "Ghar ki Laxmi" with every life he touches.
