This is an undeniable observation that conservative voters somehow turn a blind eye to. Republican politicians refuse to properly fund the Department of Veterans Affairs or provide real healthcare to our troops because they'd rather give that money to billionaires in the form of tax cuts. They'll gladly send other people's sons and daughters to get maimed and killed in foreign countries only to then leave them to rot once they're back stateside.

One need look no further than Trump's illegal war with Iran for the proof of Welch's assessment. American soldiers are dying in a conflict that provides no benefit to our national interests, all because Israel wanted to destroy a regional adversary. Meanwhile, the defense contractors are growing fat off the bloodshed while Americans foot the bill in the form of taxes and higher gas and grocery prices.

There is nothing "patriotic" about the Republican desire for Forever Wars. It is the most profound form of betrayal.
