The right uses it to advance its agenda; dem leaders use it to protect incumbents and contain their left flank. Gaza is a moral threshold for many voters. Calling them dumb won’t rebuild the coalition.

They spent years telling progressives to fall in line while backing unpopular policies, eg. support for Israel's war in Gaza. Now it blames voters instead of asking why its coalition fractured.

It is functional at policing its left flank. Parties are coalitions changed in primaries. If El-Sayed wins, Democratic voters have decided who represents them.

Bryan, McGovern, Jackson, Sanders, AOC and Mamdani contested Democratic primaries. Goldwater, Reagan, the Tea Party and Trump contested Republican ones. Voters decide who represents them.

South downtown is being redeveloped. Murphy crossing. Building a data center and creating a dead zone is short term thinking
