as a member of nct, johnny suh hasn’t had an easy road during his 10 years of debut. through fashion, music and stage performances, he has redefined what a korean star is.

johnny has always had a special existence in nct. he always gives off a mature, reassuring feeling, and he really cares for his members, but it makes people wonder, is he really like that in private? everyone assumes that maturity is something that is innate, but actually for most people, maturity is something that happens when you keep trying to become the person you want to be. in this fast-paced society, johnny has chosen to move forward at his own steady pace, to become the great man he envisions, but he doesn’t deny that he has many areas where he needs to find balance.

on stage, johnny looks outgoing and bright. but in private, he also really enjoys solitude. “i’m someone who really loves people. i love chatting, love being around people. but at the same time, i love my alone time.” he enjoys his time when he’s with his friends; but when he’s alone, he doesn’t even turn on music, or look at his phone, “i will just sit there and go blank”

when johnny suh walked into the studio, it dawns on you that some people are just born to be in front of the camera. he exudes a kind of charm that’s hard to pinpoint, causing countless people to lose their minds when they see him. with his tall stature, handsome looks and deep voice, when this kpop star first appeared as the global brand ambassador at the @acnestudios fashion show, the whole venue erupted in screams descended into a frenzy. born in chicago & rising to global fame as part of korean group nct and nct127, he has also forged his own path, through fashion, and the music and stage that he loves.

born in 1995, johnny has spent 10 years with his group, touring, growing, standing on stages across the world with his members, and experiencing the fastest era of the globalization of kpop. now that he’s 31 years old, he’s beginning to be seen as a more mature, more complete version of him.

this year is nct’s 10 anniversary. for many idol groups, 10 years is a very important milestone. it’s a long enough period where you can look back at your youth. but when asked if turning 30 was a turning point in his life, johnny seemed surprisingly calm. “personally i don’t feel there’s much difference. but because i’ve already worked for 10 years, so time has changed things, and it seems to have slowly changed without my realizing it.”

talking about the most exciting thing that’s happened in these 10 years, he unhesitatingly answered “going around the world, seeing the fans, and being with the members is very precious to me. the truly precious memories aren’t the awards or records, but people: the members i work with and the fans from all over.”

to him, the most memorable tour was their first world tour. “because back then, we didn’t even know what a tour was,” johnny
laughs as he recalls. “but that was the toughest time. i remember for our first tour, we did over 40 shows. from that tour i learnt: sometimes the tougher something is, it sometimes will create the most memories, and will make you even stronger.” he laughs saying, “perhaps because i’m a very optimistic person.”
