Boy math is calling women as "bad
drivers" when in fact men are responsible for 73% of car accidents. Boy math is calling women "emotional" when men are responsible for 90% of violent crimes. Boy math is calling women as "dependent" even though women carry out about three times more unpaid care and domestic work than men around the world. Boy math is calling women as being "overly sensitive" even though women score higher in cognitive empathy in 57 countries. Boy math is calling women "weak" while in most countries men have a significantly shorter life expectancy than women.
Mumbai is witnessing yet another decision that raises serious questions about the priorities of the BMC.
The proposal to remove the reservation of the Neville D’Souza Football Ground and replace it with a convention centre is deeply disappointing. At a time when Mumbai suffers from an acute shortage of playgrounds and open spaces, why is one of the city’s few dedicated football grounds being sacrificed instead of being protected and strengthened?
This is not merely about one football ground. It is about the future of public spaces in Mumbai. Every time an open space is converted into another form of development, the people lose while commercial interests gain.
The BMC claims this is for public infrastructure. But the larger question remains: Who truly benefits from such decisions? Citizens who need playgrounds, children who need sports facilities, and local football clubs certainly do not.
Mumbai needs more playgrounds, more parks, and more sporting infrastructure—not fewer.
The civic administration must explain why preserving public recreational spaces is no longer a priority. Citizens also deserve assurances that this reservation change will not eventually pave the way for commercial or private real estate interests in the future.
Mumbai belongs to its people—not to those who see every piece of public land as an opportunity for development.

This sentence by Dostoyevsky never fails to hit hard:
“You sensed that you should be following a different path, a more ambitious one, you felt that you were destined for other things but you had no idea how to achieve them and in your misery you began to hate everything around you.”
Men forget – or perhaps don’t want to acknowledge – that women have had a very different evolutionary experience than they have. We have spent the entire span of human existence surrounded by the very creatures who are most likely to harm us – and yet we must pretend, for the sake of society, that we can trust most men, and that only a very small percentage are predatory.
Think about what it means — what it really means — to live with the omnipresent threat of sexual violence hanging over your head from cradle to grave, violence that is committed almost always by the men you should most be able to trust. About what it’s like to know from childhood that your chances of being raped at some point before you die are greater than your chances of avoiding it. About what it’s like to experience sexual assault so frequently - and to have it treated as no big deal so consistently - that you even shrug it off yourself.
(Somehow, I get the feeling that if gay men made free with straight men’s bodies even half as much as straight/bi men help themselves to unwanted sexual contact with unconsenting women, physical assault would be seen as a perfectly acceptable - and legal - response to sexual assault.)
Women, physically unable - and legally forbidden - to retaliate with appropriate levels of violence to these “minor” violations of our bodies, must simply endure them.
