We will not let Neville D'souza ground be converted to a convention center!

Met residents and children of Bandra today and joined their fight to save Neville D'souza ground. The @mybmc cannot arbitrarily change reservation of grounds that serve a larger public good. Many children have trained here for years and some have even gone on to become well known footballers. Mumbai lacks proper open spaces for children to play and grow. In such a scenario, how can BMC destroy the few remaining public grounds? We will not let this happen.

मुंबईतील नेव्हिल डिसूझा फुटबॉल मैदानाचा आरक्षण बदलून तेथे कन्व्हेन्शन सेंटर उभारण्याचा प्रस्ताव अत्यंत दुर्दैवी आहे. आधीच मुंबईत खेळाची मैदाने, मोकळ्या जागा आणि सार्वजनिक क्रीडा सुविधा यांचा मोठा तुटवडा आहे. अशा परिस्थितीत शहरातील मोजक्या दर्जेदार फुटबॉल मैदानांपैकी एक मैदानच संपवण्याचा निर्णय कोणाच्या हितासाठी घेतला जात आहे?

हा निर्णय मुंबईकरांच्या हिताचा वाटत नाही. उलट, सार्वजनिक जागांचे व्यापारीकरण करण्याच्या दिशेने आणखी एक पाऊल असल्याची भीती नागरिकांमध्ये निर्माण झाली आहे.

बीएमसीचा दावा आहे की येथे सार्वजनिक कन्व्हेन्शन सेंटर उभारण्यात येणार आहे. मात्र, आज नागरिकांना एक स्पष्ट हमी हवी आहे—या आरक्षण बदलानंतर भविष्यात या जागेचा वापर खासगी किंवा रिअल इस्टेट विकासासाठी होणार नाही, याची हमी बीएमसी देणार का?

मुंबईतील प्रत्येक मोकळी जागा, प्रत्येक मैदान आणि प्रत्येक क्रीडा सुविधा जपण्याची जबाबदारी प्रशासनाची आहे. मात्र सध्या घेतले जाणारे निर्णय पाहता, खेळाच्या मैदानांपेक्षा विकास प्रकल्पांना अधिक प्राधान्य दिले जात असल्याचे चित्र दिसत आहे.

मुंबईला अधिक मैदाने हवी आहेत, अधिक सार्वजनिक जागा हव्या आहेत आणि अधिक क्रीडा सुविधा हव्या आहेत—त्यांचे अस्तित्व संपवणारे निर्णय नव्हेत.

मुंबई ही बिल्डर लॉबीची नव्हे, तर मुंबईकरांची आहे. त्यामुळे या निर्णयाचा तातडीने पुनर्विचार करून नेव्हिल डिसूझा फुटबॉल मैदान कायम ठेवण्यात यावे, हीच जनतेची अपेक्षा आहे.

Mumbai is witnessing yet another decision that raises serious questions about the priorities of the BMC.

The proposal to remove the reservation of the Neville D’Souza Football Ground and replace it with a convention centre is deeply disappointing. At a time when Mumbai suffers from an acute shortage of playgrounds and open spaces, why is one of the city’s few dedicated football grounds being sacrificed instead of being protected and strengthened?

This is not merely about one football ground. It is about the future of public spaces in Mumbai. Every time an open space is converted into another form of development, the people lose while commercial interests gain.

The BMC claims this is for public infrastructure. But the larger question remains: Who truly benefits from such decisions? Citizens who need playgrounds, children who need sports facilities, and local football clubs certainly do not.

Mumbai needs more playgrounds, more parks, and more sporting infrastructure—not fewer.

The civic administration must explain why preserving public recreational spaces is no longer a priority. Citizens also deserve assurances that this reservation change will not eventually pave the way for commercial or private real estate interests in the future.

Mumbai belongs to its people—not to those who see every piece of public land as an opportunity for development.

मा. सौ. @VarshaEGaikwad ji, यांच्या मार्गदर्शनाखाली आणि काँग्रेस पक्षाच्या पारदर्शक, उत्तरदायी व जनहिताच्या भूमिकेनुसार मी आज बृहन्मुंबई महानगरपालिकेच्या आयुक्तांना पत्र लिहून १९ बीएमसी अभियंत्यांनी पदोन्नती नाकारल्याप्रकरणी तात्काळ तथ्यशोधन चौकशी (Fact-Finding Inquiry) करण्याची मागणी केली आहे.

१७ सहाय्यक अभियंत्यांनी कार्यकारी अभियंता पदावरील आणि २ कार्यकारी अभियंत्यांनी उपमुख्य अभियंता पदावरील पदोन्नती नाकारली आहे. अनेक वर्षांच्या प्रतीक्षेनंतर, तांत्रिक अडचणी आणि न्यायालयीन प्रक्रियेनंतर मिळालेली पदोन्नती एकाच वेळी इतक्या अधिकाऱ्यांनी नाकारणे ही अत्यंत असामान्य बाब असून त्यामुळे गंभीर प्रशासकीय प्रश्न निर्माण होतात.

या चौकशीचा उद्देश कोणावरही आरोप करणे नसून वस्तुस्थिती समोर आणणे हा आहे. संबंधित अधिकाऱ्यांनी पदोन्नती नाकारण्यामागील कारणे, त्यांनी दिलेली लेखी निवेदने, त्यांची सध्याची विभागनिहाय पदस्थापना, प्रकल्प आणि जबाबदाऱ्या यांचा सखोल आढावा घेणे आवश्यक आहे. तसेच या सर्व प्रकरणांमध्ये कोणता समान घटक आहे का, याचीही निष्पक्ष चौकशी होणे गरजेचे आहे.

महानगरपालिकेतील अनेक अभियांत्रिकी विभागांमध्ये बिल्डर, कंत्राटदार, सल्लागार आणि इतर हितधारकांशी मोठ्या प्रमाणात व्यवहार होत असतात. कोणताही पूर्वग्रह न ठेवता, काही अधिकारी विशिष्ट किंवा संवेदनशील पदांवर कायम राहण्यासाठी पदोन्नती नाकारत आहेत का किंवा यामागे इतर काही प्रशासकीय कारणे आहेत का, याचीही चौकशी होणे आवश्यक आहे.

ही कोणत्याही अधिकाऱ्याविरुद्धची मोहीम नाही. उलट, निष्पक्ष चौकशीमुळे प्रामाणिक अधिकाऱ्यांचे संरक्षण होईल, प्रशासनावरील जनतेचा विश्वास अधिक दृढ होईल आणि महानगरपालिकेतील पारदर्शकता व उत्तरदायित्व अधिक बळकट होईल.

यासोबतच, पदोन्नती नाकारणाऱ्या कर्मचाऱ्यांबाबत महानगरपालिकेने स्पष्ट आणि सर्वसमावेशक धोरण तयार करावे, अशीही मी मागणी केली आहे, जेणेकरून भविष्यात अशा परिस्थिती हाताळण्यासाठी एकसमान आणि पारदर्शक व्यवस्था निर्माण होईल.

मुंबईकरांना पारदर्शक, उत्तरदायी आणि गुणवत्ताधिष्ठित प्रशासन मिळणे हा त्यांचा अधिकार आहे. महानगरपालिका आयुक्तांनी या प्रकरणाची निष्पक्ष चौकशी करून वस्तुस्थिती जनतेसमोर आणावी, अशी माझी अपेक्षा आहे.

Under the guidance of Smt. @VarshaEGaikwad Ji, and in line with the @INCIndia Party’s commitment to transparency and accountable governance, I have written to the Hon’ble Municipal Commissioner, BMC, demanding an immediate fact-finding inquiry into the unprecedented refusal of promotions by 19 BMC engineers—17 Assistant Engineers promoted to Executive Engineer and 2 Executive Engineers promoted to Deputy Chief Engineer.

Promotion is one of the most significant milestones in the career of a public servant. It brings greater responsibility, higher pay and improved retirement benefits. Therefore, when 19 officers across two engineering cadres simultaneously decline long-awaited promotions after years of delay due to technical issues and court proceedings, it naturally raises serious administrative questions.

The purpose of the inquiry is straightforward—to ascertain the facts. The administration must examine the written representations submitted by the concerned officers, identify their present departments, projects and assignments, and determine whether there exists any common factor behind these refusals.

Several engineering departments within the BMC involve extensive interaction with developers, contractors, consultants and other stakeholders. Without drawing any conclusions, it is only appropriate that the Corporation examines whether the refusals are linked to continuation in particular postings or whether there are any other administrative reasons behind these decisions.

This is not an allegation against any individual officer. Honest officers have nothing to fear from a fair and impartial inquiry. Transparency protects honest officers, strengthens public institutions and reinforces citizens’ confidence in governance.

Along with seeking an inquiry, I have also urged the BMC to formulate a clear policy governing cases where employees voluntarily refuse promotions, so that such situations are handled transparently and consistently in the future.

Mumbai deserves a transparent, accountable and merit-based civic administration. I hope the Municipal Commissioner will order an impartial inquiry and place the facts before the people of Mumbai.

With the tireless efforts of the BMC Water Department and its officials, the repair work on the damaged main water pipeline has now been completed and the water supply line has been successfully restored.

We have requested the BMC administration to immediately resume water supply, as residents in the affected area have been facing hardship due to the disruption since today. We have been informed that within the next one to two hours, water should start reaching households once again.

I would like to sincerely thank the Water Department officials, the BMC Commissioner @AshwiniBhide ji, and the Hon. Mayor @TawdeRitu ji for their timely intervention and continuous efforts in resolving this issue at the earliest.

However, while the repair work has been completed, an important question remains unanswered: Will action be taken against the contractor, officials, and other responsible authorities whose negligence led to this damage in the first place?

Such carelessness cannot be ignored. Damage to critical public infrastructure causes immense inconvenience to citizens and results in unnecessary expenditure of public funds. Accountability must be fixed, and strict action should be taken against all those responsible to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

The people of Mumbai deserve answers, accountability, and responsible governance.

🚨 48-Inch Water Pipeline Burst Leaves Residents Without Water 🚨

A major 48-inch (1200 MM) water supply pipeline was reportedly damaged during road and bridge construction work near Tilak Nagar Gate on the 90 Feet Road, Sakinaka, Andheri East. As a result, residents in several areas have allegedly been facing severe water shortages since yesterday, causing inconvenience to thousands of citizens.

💧 No Water Supply Since Yesterday – Citizens Suffer

Residents have complained that water supply has been disrupted since the pipeline was damaged. This raises serious questions about how excavation and drilling activities were permitted near a critical water pipeline. Was the contractor provided with utility maps by the concerned department, and were proper precautions taken before commencing the work?

⚠️ Negligence or Deliberate Act? Inquiry Needed

According to sources, there are allegations that the damage may not have been a mere accident and that a detailed investigation is required. Authorities must examine whether proper procedures were followed and whether any negligence or deliberate action led to the disruption of an essential public service.

⚖️ FIR, Penalty and Accountability Must Follow

Citizens are demanding an FIR against the contractor, site in-charge, and all officials responsible for supervising the project. A thorough inquiry should be conducted, and strict penalties imposed on those found guilty. Public infrastructure cannot be treated carelessly while thousands of residents are left without access to a basic necessity like water.

🛠️Kurla South Water Main Repair Update

​🔧Repair work on the damaged 1200 mm diameter water main in the Kurla South area has been underway continuously on a war footing since Saturday night.

🚰The pipeline is located at a depth of approximately 5 metres.

⚒️Excavation teams are facing intense technical challenges. They are navigating a tight space bordered by a 300 mm diameter Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) gas pipeline on one side and a bridge pile foundation on the other.

🔨Despite these critical constraints, engineers and field staff are carrying out the work with utmost care and systematic planning.

🔧The water main has now been fully exposed and work to replace the damaged section (measuring approximately 1.5 metres in length) has actively been taken up.

​⚙️Repair work is expected to be completed by this evening. Following completion, the water supply to the affected areas will be restored in a phased manner.

💧The BMC is closely monitoring the situation on the ground. All necessary measures are being undertaken to ensure the earliest possible completion of the repair work.

🛠️कुर्ला दक्षिण परिसरातील १२०० मिलिमीटर व्यासाची क्षतिग्रस्त जलवाहिनी सुमारे ५ मीटर खोलीवर असून, तिच्या दुरुस्तीचे काम शनिवार संध्याकाळपासून युद्धपातळीवर आणि अखंडपणे सुरू आहे.

🔧या कामादरम्यान एका बाजूस ३०० मिलिमीटर व्यासाची महानगर गॅस लिमिटेड (MGL) ची गॅसवाहिनी तर दुसऱ्या बाजूस पुलाची पाइल फाउंडेशन असल्यामुळे खोदकामात तांत्रिक अडचणी निर्माण होत आहेत. तरीही अभियंते व कर्मचारी अत्यंत दक्षतेने आणि नियोजनबद्ध पद्धतीने काम करत आहेत.

🔩सध्या जलवाहिनी पूर्णपणे खुली करण्यात आली असून, तिचा सुमारे १.५ मीटर लांबीचा क्षतिग्रस्त भाग बदलण्याचे काम हाती घेण्यात आले आहे. हे काम आज सायंकाळपर्यंत पूर्ण होण्याची शक्यता असून, त्यानंतर प्रभावित भागांतील पाणीपुरवठा टप्प्याटप्प्याने पूर्ववत करण्यात येईल.

💧महानगरपालिका प्रशासन परिस्थितीवर सातत्याने लक्ष ठेवून असून, काम लवकरात लवकर पूर्ण करण्यासाठी सर्व आवश्यक उपाययोजना करण्यात येत आहेत.

Major water pipeline burst #sakinaka has once again disrupted the lives of Mumbaikars. BMC officials are working tirelessly on the ground to repair the damage and restore services, but a serious question remains — why are such incidents repeatedly occurring?
This is not the first time that damage caused during contractor-led works has resulted in critical infrastructure failure, inconvenience to residents, traffic disruptions, and unnecessary stress for the people of Mumbai.
We demand immediate action against the contractor responsible for this damage and a thorough inquiry into the circumstances that led to this incident. Accountability cannot stop at repairs; those responsible must be held answerable.
I urge the Hon. BMC Commissioner @AshwiniBhide ji and the Hon. Mayor @TawdeRitu ji to personally intervene, fix responsibility, and take strict action against the contractor and all those involved in causing damage to public infrastructure. Mumbaikars deserve better planning, better supervision, and better accountability.

100 days of the Mahayuti-led administration in BMC have left Mumbaikars disappointed. Delays, lack of transparency, unaddressed civic issues, and poor accountability continue to affect the city. I have written to the Hon. Mayor @TawdeRitu highlighting these concerns.
