FRAME 1: "It is incumbent on us to have a pathway to removing Subsidy once and for all. Because what you spend on subsidy year-in-year-out is a waste. Any President that has the temerity and the strength to pull out subsidies will be respected as somebody that changed the course of history for Nigeria." — Rufai Oseni, October 2022
FRAME 2: The moment people supported subsidy is gone, you will never have it good as regards petrol prices, forget it. So whoever deceived you after the President announced subsidy gone, put you in the hands of international pressure, they deceived you." — Rufai Oseni, July 2026

For those of you who studied Engineering at Unilorin between 2015 to 2020, you will definitely know Prof. Mrs. Eleta and her legendary course: Thermodynamics. (I am not sure if she still takes the course till now).
We did our first test, and I scored 13/15. I was actually among the top three in the faculty. It was a big flex to see my name at the top. Back then, I was using Thermodynamics Demystified, and that result made me so sure of myself. I thought I had mastered the course completely.
So, when the mid-term came, I was just flexing, doing the "scholar" walk. Lo and behold, the test came out so hard, it wasn’t smiling at all. I panicked after the exam, and regrettably, the score confirmed my panic. I had 4/20. This was after using 4 extra sheets!
That day was the first time I cried for a result. I remember crying in my aunt’s car on the way home. My friend, who was hailing me during the first test, kept saying, "I know they didn’t score you well, you should go and complain😅." But deep down, I knew the truth. I had messed up.
The first thing I did when I got home was cry some more. I soaked my bedsheets with tears from my eyes, and honestly, I cried myself to sleep. It was during that sleep that the inspiration came. I made peace with the fact that I didn't know this course as much as I claimed to. I needed to fix the gap immediately.
I went out and bought a new higher education notebook, and I downloaded the Thermodynamics textbook by Gupta on my tablet with the aim of reading it from the very beginning. Mind you, this was just three weeks to the exam.
I made a plan to read Thermodynamics for at least 5 hours a day. Every morning when I woke up, before even going to the mosque, I made sure to prove all the formulae and concepts I had learnt the day before.
I remember breaking my own reading record; I read for 24 hours straight on a marathon at LT1. I recall a lady who noticed that I had spent so many hours reading there, and she was forced to ask me which department I was in. After I told her, she said to me: "WHATEVER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR, GOD WILL GRANT YOU."
By the time the exam started, I had become gallant. I went into the exam hall ready to revenge, yet afraid not to fuck up again. Despite the intensity and my wahala, guess what I scored? 71. I can still see how I jubilated at the school stadium when the result came out.
I can’t forget that experience. Unilorin was brutal in those times. We thank God for growth and blessings.
NB: I have shared this story before on the TL.
Two years ago, a former colleague of mine who had relocated to Canada came to Nigeria and while chatting with colleagues still working in the company asked about me.
"Suraj is now doing real estate full time", she was told.
Few weeks later, she contacted me: "Suraj, I heard you are now doing real estate. Can you reconstruct our family house in Lekki?"
After series of meetings and negotiation with her family, agreement reached: we will demolish the old bungalow and shops, finance and construct units of flats in a three floor building on the land and we share the units of flats built in an agreed ratio.
The rest is history.
Sometimes, business opportunities come from random interactions.
PS: The land was bought for N2,000 in 1976. Now worth up to N200m.
