As a man, do everything within your power to escape the trap of poverty. What we are witnessing in Homa Bay is, in many ways, a reflection of the consequences of generations raised in abject poverty and hopelessness. There is a dangerous political economy where poverty, unemployment and frustration become fertile ground for goons and political violence.

Very few people from privileged backgrounds are willing to risk their lives in street battles,, it is usually the poor who are mobilized, manipulated and left to bear the consequences. When people grow up believing that another person's success is an insult to their own existence, society has a deeper problem than politics.

We must confront poverty, not glorify the desperation it creates. Political leaders should stop weaponizing poverty and instead create opportunities that give young men something worth protecting, a future. Homabay is a county that is overwhelmed with poverty, that's why goons are easily available for hire.
