Is offering certificates and degrees to MPs really the best use of resources? Shouldn't the focus be on electing qualified candidates in the first place?
Let's just hope they learn something before making laws.
This is not a rejection of the party system but an acknowledgment that the system in Maldives at this moment in time needs reform - and in such a polarized climate, with the electorate wholly dependent on party leaders for their livelihood, there is little hope of reform internally.
We need to move away from tribalism and bring in more accountability to the leadership.
As an example, we are still being ridiculed by the whole world for the disgusting antics by some of our MPs a few days ago.
Each one of them belongs to one party or the other.
But I have yet to hear any party condemn the violence. While the voters are disgusted, the parties appear perfectly happy.
Campaign without getting personal.
Campaign without saying shit at other candidate or by spreading hatred to other candidate.
