2/2 Our team moved the elephants on & donated additional noise deterrents to the landowners. This is the reality of living on the forest edge with elephants & other wildlife being forced into close proximity to human settlements as their forest habitat is fragmented and destroyed

Recently a family in one of the forest edge communities we support & patrol in, experienced conflict with Sumatran elephants when their home & buildings were damaged. The elephants came in at night, destroyed oil palm trees and caused serious damage, leaving the owners scared 1/2

Our rangers have been following a wild Sumatran elephant bull as he makes his way through community gardens & plantations, destroying crops & plants as he goes. We’re working with the community to safely mitigate any potential conflict and keep this beautiful elephant safe.

Crossing a flooded river with motorbikes is no problem to these hard working rangers. These men and women go above and beyond expectations to serve the communities and ecosystem, and a deep, flooded river doesn't stop them from patrolling.

We've just finished analysing last month's camera trap data and were excited to see lots of images of Sumatran elephants! This mother and her calf are part of a larger herd of at least 14 that our team monitors regularly when they roam near forest edge communities.

Aries was well respected by all those who knew him and we are devastated by his loss. Our thoughts are with his two daughters at this time.

Yesterday we tragically lost our Field Coordinator, Pak Aries. Aries led our team for the past 4 years. His passing was sudden & unexpected. Prior to joining Sumatran Ranger Project, Aries had a long & successful career in the Indonesian military & served peacekeeping missions.

2. and as the team were tracking a potentially injured sun bear last night another livestock attack occurred which resulted in the loss of another cow. These losses hit forest edge communities hard and we'll be investigating how these losses maybe prevented in this area in future

We're sorry for the sad image, but this is the reality of living with tigers. This is why we build predator-proof corrals as they are proven to reduce and even prevent livestock loss to tigers. A young tiger was responsible for killing this cow 1/2
