seriously… i like the idea of lara becoming independent and choosing her own fate. she chose to stay in the human world and saved mari from the death she herself had caused. my issue is that this wasn’t what the anime had been setting up for the entire 11 episodes.
Why does every heterosexual relationship get the privilege of existing as an unambiguous relationship, while the central relationship between two girls has to remain a philosophical puzzle?
Honestly I still can't believe Kinema Citrus just wrote that powerful Grace line to Mari: "Live for love, not for the laws."
Even in the many yuri series that I watched I haven't seen a declaration as bold and explicit as this one. Kudos to the writers of Goodbye Lara for this.
actually the most cinematically beautiful scene btw, the way it shows lara and mari’s love story from the beginning and transitioned to “lara.. mari.. live for love, not for the laws..” INSANEEE
the juxtaposition between grace accepting marilara’s love as it is & rowan violently turning lara back into a mermaid is such a powerful message about how damaging conformity can be. #goodbyelara
