@KernCMC Working in a full inclusion class I notice everyday how important the 4 P's are. It is essential to create a positive classroom with collaboration of peers. They have to have fun and feel welcomed in order to learn math. They need to believe that mistakes are an amazing thing.
@KernCMC@Mathgarden It is important to replace passive approaches of learning math with play. This breaks down the stereotype of how you have to be great at math to succeed. When they experience math using all their senses they can really dive into mathematics. I love songs, and movement.
@KernCMC@Mathgarden The way to "wake up" the true love of math is to make it exciting and fun. One of my colleagues does an emoji escape room after every unit. It is a great way to have fun, collaborate, and assess. The students love it!
@KernCMC@Mathgarden I believe that portfolios are an amazing way to replace traditional grades. It can allow for collaboration and choice in assignments. It is a great fun more casual way of grading that allows creativity.
@KernCMC@Mathgarden Teachers need to reach students socially and emotionally because if they feel connected to the content they will be more motivated to complete and excel at it. They need to know that they can do math and that math can solve so many problems in real life.
