"Our Shrine of Liberty — the Alamo is a beacon of Texas independence for all Texans. It stands as a symbol of freedom, sacrifice, and Lone Star pride. Since assuming the role of Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office, I have worked every day to ensure our sacred shrine is protected and preserved.

SB3059 will introduce a new governing commission to oversee the Alamo’s operations, which makes sense and is in the best interest of this project long-term, but does so without deference to the realities of the construction ahead. While our goal is to have this project completed by the end of 2027, an undertaking such as this will assuredly not be without unforeseen delays surrounding issues that will only become evident once construction truly begins.

The transfer of oversight from the General Land Office to this new commission should be done based solely on what is best for the Alamo and the state’s historic renovation efforts.

It’s more prudent to revisit the transfer of the Alamo in 2027 during the 90th Legislative session when we all possess more direct knowledge of these realities. Passing legislation now with a fixed deadline for transfer could potentially risk this sensitive and historic undertaking."

This week, our brand-new Tuskegee Airmen Texas State Veterans Home was honored to welcome Sgt. Robert O'Malley as its first resident.

Sgt. O'Malley is the first @USMC recipient of the Medal of Honor in the Vietnam War.

The @TexasVLB will continue to provide the utmost care to our country's brave heroes in each of our Veterans homes.

Recently, the @TXGLO's disaster recovery team was in Luling to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Caldwell County Evacuation Center.

Funded with a grant totaling more than $22 million, this evacuation center will house up to 360 residents evacuating from natural disasters. ✅
