Oranges are the fruit of various species of citrus trees in the family Rutaceae (see list of plants called oranges); it mainly refers to Citrus × sinensis, which is also known as sweet orange, to distinguish it from the related Citrus × aurantium, which is known as sour orange. Sweet orange reproduces asexually (apomixis via nucellar embryo); Sweet orange variety arose due to mutation.
