So excited to be presenting preliminary findings from my systematic review at #IASCL2024 today! It has been a rocky arrival to Prague but hopefully things get better & better! 💫
We have added some new recipes from our 2023 3rd Year Curtin Speech Pathology Students to our IDDSI recipe page. Feel free to share with those who have dysphagia and their families https://t.co/YOADJYKHEP #AdobeExpress via @AdobeExpress
@SamuelDCalder That's so understandable. I feel people who are introspective will often keep thinking & thinking about a situation - trying to understand it, understand the other person, etc etc. If only everyone was so willing to ruminate & reflect (e.g. that doc)!
Going to #ASHA23? If you are interested in pragmatic development in children who are deaf/hard-of-hearing, please join my colleagues for this 1hr seminar (1502) on Fri. Nov17 10:30AM CC103 We’re excited to share this work using the Language Use Inventory (LUI)! #SLP#SLT#SLPeeps
Children with DLD need individualised treatment that is specific to the child’s needs and how they learn, as well as individualised & responsive feedback - @SusanEbbels#IDLDRC
The findings in this study mirror the experience in my clinical work. Talking therapies with complex language are inaccessible for yp with DLD. Joint delivery of sessions with psychologists & explicit pre language teaching hit the sweet spot! https://t.co/gipGPm7bcR
This is such a big deal advocacy win!!! Thank you @tiffanyphogan @literacyspeech and @mcgregor_karla and all who did the important and necessary work for this new recognition and guidance from the @usedgov on IDEA. 🤩 Wow! Wow! Wow! 👏🏽 https://t.co/XscDv0wZUW
For example, Dr Susan Ebbels mentioned using outcome measures at different levels: one outcome very close to what you're doing, so you can be clear about whether your intervention has worked (or not!) and some more distant measures #IDLDRC

It seems like there are mirrored themes across lots of aspects of SLP - learning theory, intensity/dosage, outcome measures: speech sound research also seems to be considering the same factors as language therapy research #IDLDRC
@SusanEbbels "Don’t want to teach in silos. Make the link between areas." @SusanEbbels talking about helping children with DLD make links between the aspects of language we're addressing in therapy #IDLDRC
Attending @SusanEbbels Q&A at #IDLDRC - some really good points around considering the child's POV and time spent in therapy in terms of opportunity/cost
@SusanEbbels Also, a great point about not trying to do 'all levels' of therapy at once without being systematic and intentional: work on vocab/syntax and narratives, but teach them explicitly and teach children to put them together explicitly #IDLDRC
I definitely advocate for this too! I call it "zooming in" and "zooming out" in therapy - putting the skill into context, but also ensuring you've considered the specific target you're working on (incl WHY) so that you're very clear on how to zoom in/out #IDLDRC
