I once shared this story in a Space and everyone was shocked 😂.
After she asked me for my major reasons for wanting to date her and be in a relationship with her, I decided to put my thoughts together and send them to her via email. That was in March 2021.
She didn’t respond immediately. In fact, her reply came in August 2021.
But here’s the interesting part; before that email response, we were already talking. No labels yet, just a proper talking stage.
Between March and July 2021, we had deep conversations….faith, family values, parenting, future goals, marriage… real-life discussions. At some point, she asked me what my five-year plan looked like, and I told her everything….straight from the top of my head. And the talking stage continued.
Fast forward to August 2021; just a few days before my birthday 😂😂.
She finally replied to my email. But not just a reply; she sent a detailed breakdown of why she was choosing to date me and be in a relationship with me.
Best birthday gift ever. 2021 was truly that year.🥰🥰
But the real highlight came in September 2021.
She sent me another email titled “HILAUS BLUEPRINT.”
Every single five-year plan I had casually mentioned during our conversations….she wrote them all down, merged them with her own five-year plans, and created a master plan for us.
She simply said:
“Check your mail. Take your time. Read through it and let me know what you think.”
The moment I opened that document and saw HILAUS BLUEPRINT, and read through everything… I just knew—this is the one.
On December 28th, we went to the beach 🏖️ to relax and flesh out some parts of the plan.
On the 31st night of December 2021, we prayed about it.
And in 2022, we fired 🔥 down.
Now in 2025, by the special grace of God, we’re still firing.
PS: HILAUS is just the combination of our names. Hers-Hilary and Mine: Augustine 😂
My ijaw woman na combinationist 🥰🥰
This resonates with me so much. My partner and I have been best friends since we were 14 and committed to each other since we were 17. I had no idea how to love — hated hugs, struggled to say I love you, very avoidant, hot and cold, hyper-independent — but he modeled it for me and I slowly adapted. We were too young, naive, and idealistic to obsess over details like trauma and healing and surface-level (in)compatibilities and so on, we just knew that we belonged together and stubbornly made it work. Sometimes I wonder how we would work out if we met in adulthood. Would we overthink it, create barriers, avoid the risks?
Somehow over 13 years we found a way, over and over again, to persevere through what felt like so many attempts from the universe to keep us apart: 5+ years long distance, serious cultural and religious differences, health and family complications, career volatility, etc.
This relationship is probably the most insane and complex and fulfilling and delightful project I’ll ever work on in my life, aside from raising kids, which I’ll be doing with him anyway. I don’t understand how anyone can ever grow bored of someone: it takes a lifetime to learn how to love each other because you’re both constantly changing.
There are infinities to discover in a single person; every day is a surprise.
My fiancée and I got engaged a year ago, and our relationship has been so much better since then.
Materially, nothing’s really changed. We already lived together, shared a credit card, had group chats with each other’s families...
But getting engaged led to a mindset shift. We stopped evaluating each other (e.g., are they the right person for me?) and got to work building the best life possible with our relationship as a given. And that has been incredibly freeing.
For example, I’m convinced that a lot of our past conflicts were just uncertainty in disguise. When we'd fight, it wasn't actually just, “we disagree, let's resolve this issue." There was unspoken subtext: “Is this disagreement a dealbreaker? Do I need to put up with this? Would life be easier with someone else?"
Since getting engaged, we resolve conflict so much faster. We skip the “does this mean we’re incompatible?” step and jump straight to “how can we solve this as quickly as possible?”
Another huge positive is that thinking about our future has become way more fun. We’re fully a team now, and we can plan and dream together: her future is mine, and mine is hers.
The point I want to emphasize is that the only thing that changed about our relationship was our commitment to it. But that was all it took!
Things don’t need to be perfect first. Commit to something, and by doing so, you make it great.
I was listening to an interview Olushola had with Don Jazzy, and one part really stood out.
The story of how he discovered Ayra Starr.
Don Jazzy shared that he reached out to someone to help scout young talents on Ayra’s campus, without knowing Ayra Starr.
This person sent him a few Instagram handles, and while none of them seemed bad, he wasn’t fully convinced yet.
So, he did something many people don’t realize top industry leaders do,he watched quietly from a distance.
Every day, he would check these young creatives’ pages.
They were posting casually, probably with no idea that someone as big as Don Jazzy was keeping tabs on them.
Then one day, Ayra Starr posted a particular video.
That was the moment,Don Jazzy said to himself,THIS IS IT.
He slid into her DM,but she didn’t reply.
Not stopping there, he noticed she had posted another video featuring her brother, so he reached out to him instead.
And that was the beginning of what we now know as Ayra Starr’s remarkable journey into stardom.
Here’s the lesson,PEOPLE ARE WATCHING,people can only watch what you consistently put out in public.
Ayra Starr had posted countless videos before the one that made Don Jazzy take action.
She had been showing up, building in public even when no one was clapping.
If she had stopped posting,if she had given up too soon it might have been someone else that got discovered, because Don Jazzy was also watching others.
Consistency is the bridge between where you are and the opportunity you’re waiting for.
Every post, every effort, every piece of work you share is a seed.
One day, the right person will see the right seed at the right time.
So don’t stop,stay consistent,keep building.
Keep showing up because the truth is your “THIS IS IT” moment is always one step away.
SUNDAY BLESSINGS.

I want to have so much fun with my lover. I want to visit new places with them, try cool things for the first time, and document every moment of enjoyment with them. I want to have a love where I get giddy thinking of plans we’ve made, a love full of luster and clear happy days.
