ao3 has been under a lot of pressure lately. more users, more traffic, more reports, more confusion. which is great in one way because fandom is alive and people want stories, but it also means we all need to breathe and remember how the site actually works.
this is for everyone. old readers, new readers, writers, lurkers, people who just discovered fanfiction last week, and people who have been here since dial up.
let us talk about how to exist peacefully on ao3.
At some point the fanon interpretation is essentially a new chatacter
Which i think ppl should just start making ocs
Characters you love most likely are based on/influenced by other characters before it
So why not apply that to your own?
I love being in fandoms but when fanon are more dominant than canon in how a character is viewed thats when i know i need to distance myself and just enjoy it in my own bubble
Yall really stop underestimating how HARSH the environment around Rinjani mountain. It’s one of the most difficult mountains to climb in Indonesia. How the fuck does this have to do with racism
Juliana Marins has been missing for over two days inside an active volcano in Indonesia. The tour company left her. The rescue failed. If she were a white American woman, there’d be helicopters, headlines, and urgency.
indonesia isn't like yall where race decides who deserves help. it's abt harsh realities. the survivor slipped near rinjani's summit like this, which takes 8–9hrs to reach it's a volcano with brutal weather and no easy access no heli can just swoop in, people are trying...
I should just refrain from posting again on this thread as I suspect it won’t do the OP any good. But I am just so personally offended by it, having been immersed in the Indonesian culture for so many years. They are a lovely, caring people. I also find zellie’s cavalier condemnation of the Indonesian Mountain Rescue Team to be discusting. Such teams the world over practice an unwavering commitment to saving lives—often in the harshest, most unforgiving conditions. Many are volunteers, driven by compassion and the belief that no life should be lost without every possible effort being made. Their ethos is one of selflessness, discipline, and dedication. I simply can’t imagine them not giving their all to save this woman because she is black.
