my annoyance with people’s reactions to this is the lack of any historical context for the image itself. like of course in a post-PrEP/first world these statements feel trite. but, as recent funding cuts show us, there are lessons still to be learned from the AIDS era.
In a perfect world, it wouldn’t be extraordinarily difficult to raise a disabled child, but it currently is. I’m so lucky to have been born to parents with resources to give me the best life possible and I hope we as people prioritize this for all in the future
As a disabled person, I think it’s important for me to offer the nuanced take that I don’t like the idea of people aborting their potentially disabled children, but ultimately not wanting to have a child is reason enough to be given the right to choose
it will always be funny to me this was herald as artistic genius pushing the boundaries of music during the same time people were shitting on "mumble rap"
How much of Backrooms’ compelling atmosphere is the anxiety of growing up in an empire past its peak?
I don’t know, but the movie felt familiar. For context, a building I worked in for two years:
Pennsylvania Mayor slams ‘Love Island USA’ contestant Sean Reifel for quitting his police job to be on the show:
“Our police department spent a lot of time training and we paid thousands of taxpayer dollars to send him to the police academy. We are disappointed he left as we now have another vacancy in our department that is impossible to fill until next year. I never thought I’d see the day in America where reality show participation wins out over being a police officer.”
a trans woman was beaten to death in toronto & police are having trouble identifying them. the police also don’t seem to be pushing this story as much so it seems unlikely her people will find her :(
@CatalystOfColor@Lexiesss1 I actually would think it’s stupid to insinuate that all straight people are the cause of the homophobia I experience cause I’m not an idiot like you
@CatalystOfColor@Lexiesss1 1. I agree. Which is why it’s odd that a lot of you are acting like drag is that factory.
2. The systems that allow men to perpetuate these things are the cause, that doesn’t fall to anyone individual and framing it as though all men have personally wronged you is unhealthy
@Aameridoll@roseboy20_01 Literally, no one has been arguing otherwise we are simply stating that painting this art form as inherently misogynistic does nothing for anyone
