Being kind as a doctor is not only about charging less.
My fees could easily be higher. I have simply chosen to keep them modest.
The same goes for tests and medicines. I don't order a test just because I can, and when one is needed, I send patients to labs that give good discounts. I don't write a medicine just because the patient expects one. I prescribe only what is truly needed, and choose the option that gives the best balance of quality and cost.
Many ultrasound scans cost nothing extra. They are part of the consultation, and the fees stay modest despite the years of experience (and the salt and pepper moustache 😃).
A patient comes to us with fear and full trust. Real empathy is never taking advantage of that, whether in fees, tests, or medicines.
I have never regretted it.

कल मेरे एक दलित मित्र ने मुझे बताया कि जब उसने DU के रामजस कॉलेज में दाखिला लिया, तो कॉलेज के पहले दिन प्रोफेसर ने पूरी कक्षा के छात्रों का परिचय लिया। जब उसका नंबर आया, तो उसकी अंग्रेज़ी कमजोर थी, क्योंकि वह सरकारी हिंदी माध्यम स्कूल से पढ़कर आया था।

प्रोफेसर ने उसे खूब डाँटा और कहा, “जब तुम्हें अंग्रेज़ी नहीं आती, तो रामजस में एडमिशन क्यों लिया?” प्रोफेसर ने पूरी कक्षा के सामने उसे अपमानित किया।

उसने बताया कि कक्षा समाप्त होने तक वह भयंकर अपमान और पीड़ा महसूस करता रहा। इसके बाद वह 15 दिनों तक कॉलेज नहीं गया।

जब उसके दोस्तों और सीनियर्स को यह बात पता चली, तो वे उसके कॉलोनी वाले झुग्गी जैसे घर तक गए और उसे दोबारा कॉलेज आने के लिए मनाया।

आज वही लड़का दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट का बड़ा वकील है।

थैंक यू की प्रोफेसर कामयाब नहीं हुवा। वह तो उसे आत्महत्या करवाना चाहता रहा होगा।
