Furmint is also grown in the tiny region of Somló, Austria, Slovakia, and Slovenia. The grape lends itself to a wide range of winemaking styles, from sparkling wines to still, dry wines to sweet wines, and especially botrytized wines ('Noble Rot').

International Furmint Day is dedicated to raising global awareness of the Furmint grape variety, used in the production of the world-renowned Tokaji wines.

The day was initiated by Dániel Kézdy, who also founded Furmint February - a series of events that begin with a grand Furmint tasting in Budapest. Furmint is a late-ripening and thick-skinned white grape variety. It is well-known in the Tokaj region.
