Chatted with James earlier, sharing a quick snippet from our conversation for anyone who might find it helpful.

Personally, I believe the so-called “shitcos” make the best runs. History backs that up.

Qullamaggie, the legend himself, built his wealth trading these exact kinds of names. For me, it has to be a high ADR% or ATR stock within the best theme. More often than not, these names actually make the biggest moves.

Mario’s Stamatoudis says this best,

“Uptrend doesn’t equal momentum. Momentum, for me, means kinetic energy expressed through different character, resilience, dense volume, and various combinations of the above”

Position sizing is the holy grail! Sizing appropriately can make or break the ability to catch big winners. I remember hearing Joe Fahmy and Mike Webster talk about times they used to size too aggressively, and instead of letting the trade work, they ended up taking a few dimes when it had the potential to be a massive trade.

Therefore, I keep my approach pretty simple. I usually start with a 10-15% position. If the stock makes a 25% move or more, I trim a third. Even on the highest conviction names, I might trim up to 20% size.

Trimming into strength helps me mentally. It de-risks the trade and gives me the breathing room to let the rest run, while also helping to add on dips.

From there, it’s about managing the position around key moving averages and being willing to add with nuance.

I’m comfortable adding higher, that’s a superpower when done right. But it has to be a low-risk entry with strong momentum. I’ve done this on names like HIMS, CRWV, OKLO, and even CRCL today.

It’s like rebuilding the full position as the move continues, yet has to be done right else ends up increasing the cost basis too much. And if it plays out big by the end of the day, I trim back down to my original starting size maybe to 80% or two-thirds of it depending on the quality of the name. That way, I lock in gains but still stay in the trade for a potential bigger move.

Rinse and repeat.

At the end of the day, I’ve built my edge around trading the names others call “shitcos.” My system tends to catch these names. I also put in the a ton of time researching, finding the best stocks in the strongest themes or sectors. That gives me the confidence that my name has the potential best momentum, most likely also has the best fundamentals.

This is just one trader’s edge: mine. Yours may be completely different. And that’s the beauty of the game.

There’s no one-size-fits-all strategy. Hope this helps someone.
