Our mental health is far too important to ignore; follow to help raise awareness & de-stigmatise mental health and disability🎗 #MentalHealth#Disability
Why I think mental health should be taught in school (a thread)
- it can enable schoolchildren to become more compassionate to others. They’ll be more understanding of the impact and weight from their actions and words
A reminder that conversion therapy comes from a belief that being gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans is a mental illness and it promotes treatments and psycho therapies to ‘cure’ and change someone’s sexual orientation and suppress their gender identity.
So lesbian, gay and bisexual conversion therapy has been banned? I wish I could pride myself on being in a country that is progressive and is becoming more inclusive but I’m so shocked it took this long and Boris didn’t think to protect his own LGBTQ+ community quicker.
I sometimes wonder if all the people we deal with in education, health and SEND services actually take a minute to reflect on the fact that they are dealing with real people who have actual feelings. Do they realise the affect they have on peoples lives?
It's so easy to let go of your mental health & find the time for self care as a student but it's so important to look after yourself. For years I became unable to function in school & coincide with the environment of the classroom & fell incredibly ill with my mental stability.

Why someone might still be autistic even though they don’t act like your ‘friends 7 year old autistic son’ (or something along these lines)
And why this is just incredibly invalidating to say

I would just like to reiterate that suicidal isn’t selfish & the first reason why someone shouldn’t kill themselves is because how it might affect others. Anyone that experiences suicidal ideation should receive support, understanding, compassion & empathy, not guilt trips.

Autism and other neurodivergent diagnoses are the only diagnoses I’ve heard of where one simply gets a diagnosis and is then left in the wilderness. Where is the support for neurodivergent people? Why isn’t there a (developed) system?
I’m tired of researching about autism & reading about how it affects children, I see all the time ‘how to help your child’ or ‘children with autism experience this’. There’s so little research and helpful tools for adult autistics.
ADULT AUTISTICS EXIST
