No sign at the pump. Then they officially raised it to 20 percent. You complained. They smiled: any car can take it. Manuals don't matter. E10 can take E20. Minor mileage drop and so on. You complained loud, they shouted louder: It helps the farmer, it trims the import bill. You said, 'what about my car?'. Take one for the country, they said, 'If you love your car, clearly you don't love your country. But you do love your country, don't you? There. You've been gaslit. Properly."

"So who benefits?"

"Not you, the consumer. You have no say. You only pay."

"Then who gains?"

"Well, the import bill does dip, a little. The farmer gains, in a tiny, twisted way. The real winners are the ethanol industry, the oil companies and the sarkar."
