What bothers me most about this is that Ed Sheeran has spent years being conspicuously quiet on an issue that has divided artists, audiences and entire communities. Fine. Maybe he did not want to alienate fans.

But then you bring Macklemore onstage?

Everyone knows what Macklemore has made himself about. This is not obscure information requiring forensic due diligence.

So even if you plead ignorance on night one, which is already mind-blowing, you definitely cannot plead ignorance on night two. You may not have delivered the message yourself, but you knowingly handed the microphone to someone you knew would.

And that is what feels so gross about it. Jewish and Israeli fans, and their allies, have bought Ed Sheeran records, streamed his music, filled his stadiums and paid hundreds of dollars for tickets without being told that attending his concert might mean becoming a captive audience for Macklemore’s antizionist antics.

Sorry, Ed, but you do not get to quietly collect everyone’s money while carefully avoiding saying what you believe, then outsource the statement to your guest performer and expect not to be called out for it.

Let’s be honest about why. Mark Carney and the Liberals need these votes. So the rest of the country gets sacrificed. Public spaces get surrendered. Cultural traditions get treated as collateral damage

Arrest people who harass families. Enforce the law equally. Stop rewarding intimidation with immunity
