I’m so proud of my baby Scarlette but no one warned us enough that one day your kids leave the dinner table. She leaves for college this week. I’m so proud of her but also, I feel like I’m getting punched in the chest everytime I think about her not being at the table with us every night.

The irony of your first child is that they fill your heart in ways you never knew possible, and do so continually as they grow, but they also take pieces of your heart with them as they grow up. Those pieces still exist but they operate like magnets. You want them back so they’re always close. It tugs relentlessly on your heart to be close to all the pieces.

My dream is to one day build homes for all our kids near ours and for us to be in the same neighborhood until Landon and I get old and go to be with God. That’s the dream. That once they have their own families, they come back, and the dinner table grows… but for that table to grow, you have to let pieces of your heart go to see the world and grow.

She’ll always be my first born. The one that made me become the man I needed to be. The one that made me love a love I never knew existed. The one I’ve protected in every way I could. The one her Momma became an expert in everything for. So she could be healthy, wise and strong. God blessed us with her. He really did.

And I know some of you aren’t fans of college, I’m not either in many fields but for medicine and law and engineering it makes sense. She’s pursuing one of those with a strong heart, a strong head, a stronger love for Jesus and a strong compass for what’s right. As much as I wish I could make her stay home forever, I know this is her time to fly, and I knew from birth this young lady wasn’t a bird that could thrive without flying.

Pray for her as she enters this part of life, and for Landon and I that we deal with it well. I think Landon will. She has a way with these things as a Mom. Me on the other hand, I’m gonna have a hard time I think. I’ll miss every moment.

And Scarlette, I’ve loved you since before you were born and I’ll love you to the end of time. I’m endlessly proud of you. It’s time to fly my girl. ❤️

P.S. You’re a rockstar for finishing high school a year early, getting scholarships offered to you and for already having more than 20 college credits already. Your mind will take you far, and your heart will take you farther. I had to get that proud dad brag in.

🇺🇸 Young Dems are all-in on DSA foreign policy radicalism.

The numbers tell the story: ending all immigrant detentions and deportations excites 71% of under50 Democrats, ending U.S. support for Israel to free Palestine gets 56%, dropping sanctions on Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran lands at 52%, and slashing the military budget while closing overseas bases also hits 52%.

Domestic socialist ideas like government ownership of transport and energy (41%), felons voting (41%), abolishing police and prisons (29%), or noncitizens voting (24%) get much less enthusiasm even among the young.

Interestingly, free trade still has broad support across parties, including among Democrats favorable to DSA (strong support around 54%), showing the foreign policy radicalism is the real age flashpoint, not classic economic leftism.

The party’s old guard is still wedded to the establishment foreign policy consensus, while the rising young left wants a sharp break.

This internal tug-of-war is only getting messier.
