Today, I am releasing my statement on the historic and unrivaled $10 million dollar settlement between myself and Texas Children’s Hospital: a journey that began with a decision to do what was right, no matter the personal cost.

This has been a hard road and the scars from this journey will not soon wear off. I lost the job I loved and the career I worked so hard to build.

But now? Americas First Detransitioner Clinic. Five doctors fired. $10 million dollars paid back to the government. Countless internal reforms and ethics requirements. It’s extraordinary. It’s unprecedented.

It was worth it.

⚖️ UPDATE: Higgins v Standards Commission for Scotland

Yesterday, 4 August, my judicial review was heard in the Court of Session. Lord Sandison has reserved judgment, and a written decision is expected to take several weeks.

The judicial review centres on two key legal questions:

First, whether the court should intervene at this stage to prevent a potentially unfair Standards Commission hearing, or whether I should be required to proceed with that hearing and challenge any adverse decision by appealing to the sheriff afterwards.

Second, whether the Standards Commission acted reasonably in exercising its discretion to exclude evidence that I consider central to my defence.

During the hearing, the Standards Commission acknowledged that the evidence indicated information about proposed teacher cuts within Glasgow City Council had been withheld, increasing the likelihood that councillors would approve the budget without fully understanding its consequences.

This evidence is central to explaining both my actions and the circumstances in which they took place. My position remains that I cannot receive a fair hearing if I am prevented from placing relevant evidence of this significance before the panel.

The court has not yet reached a final decision. I will provide a further update once the written judgment has been issued and I am able to comment more fully.

I remain immensely grateful to my legal team at PBW Law, Dan Byrne KC and Ross Cameron, Advocate. My sincere thanks also go to Jack Irvine and @Dr11Ums for their pivotal support.

Finally, I have been overwhelmed by the extraordinary level of support I have received from members of the public, civic organisations and cross-party elected representatives at every level of government, throughout Scotland and beyond.

Living in Pennsylvania it is striking how bad it is for kids in Scotland. Here my son’s public school had incredible range of sports programs, a state of art theatre facility & more. Kids are supported to be kids. & they thrive. It’s not rocket science.
