The Kansas City chapter of @sunrisemvmt. We're young people fighting for climate justice and collective liberation. #GreenNewDeal Better Buses for KC 🚌
Over 60 bus riders joined us last night to discuss their dreams for KC’s buses at our very first BUS RIDERS TOWN HALL 🎉🎉
It was a powerful evening full of frustrations with the way things are and HOPE for the future we can build when we are united 🫂
@2024dion@RyanRosenblatt Over a dozen community benches placed so far. Many of them removed. But many more to come 😏
Policy of removing community benches confirmed here by a KCATA spokesperson:

This is the second bench of the summer, expect many more!
If you are a young person in KC that wants to join others in fighting back against fascism and for a livable future, go to the link in our bio to join Sunrise Movement KC! 🌞🪑
💥The SECOND bench from our summer build is officially DROPPED💥
As we continue facing a brutal heatwave, it is important that we continue to show up for our neighbors.
Which is why these benches are happening and why we are passing out ice waters at bus stops this afternoon.
The lack of bus stop infrastructure around KC continues to put us a risk.
There ✨used✨ to be a bench at Troost and 49th. We know KCATA & KCPD remove benches along bus lines. This action is causing direct harm to bus riders and neighbors needing a respite from the heat!
Our friends @sunrisemvmtkc are hosting a rally against Spire's rate hike just before the June 4 commission meeting. Go if you can: https://t.co/wDZBvFNkec
We canvassed the neighborhood closest to where the project is proposed and found strong opposition from community members.

Just cus we arent as active on this app doesnt mean we arent busy!
We showed up to @portkc 2 months in a row opposing their Google handout and they delayed voting on the data center tax breaks each time.

Bus riders with Sunrise Movement KC oppose ordinance #250382 as written, and demand that Mayor Lucas & KCMO City Council offer and pass a committee substitute that fully-funds our buses, Vision Zero, AND Bikeshare. 1/3
Speak out against Mayor Lucas’ “plan”:
Send an email demanding KCMO City Council fully-fund buses, Vision Zero, AND bikeshare: https://t.co/YrgCSeWtW4 (s/o @BikeWalkKC for uplifting this!)
Join us this Tuesday at 10:30am at KCMO City Hall (or Zoom) to give public testimony. 3/3

The money is there to fully fund all of these programs – Over $11m of our Public Mass Transportation sales tax dollars are being siphoned off to fund road resurfacing and traffic signal projects – things that benefit motorists, NOT bus riders. 2/3
@portkc : No Handouts For Billionaires! Oligarchs Out of KC!
🤢 The unelected board of Port KC is set to vote THIS MONDAY on a $10 billion bond and 25 year property tax handout for Google in order to build another data center in the area.
It’s people vs billionaires. Show up and defend your city from the oligarchy. Email the Port KC board to demand they stop rubber stamping billionaire handouts.

On top of this, data centers destroy our planet and drive up utility prices. We need good schools, transit, housing, jobs, and food for our people.
At a time when Kansas Citians struggle to make ends meet, it is outrageous for PortKC to prioritize lining billionaire’s pockets.
Big win in Kansas City last night.
Brittany Foley — a 29-year-old working class Black mom who raised only $1800 — just defeated millionaire donors & developers.
She campaigned for green schools and against policies that would give school district funding to cops and jails.
