the way watching this made me feel the same way i did when i first watched the show when it premiered makes me long for season 2 so much more than i thought possible
“I know how important their relationship is to each other, because nobody else can even I can't relate to what they're going through. You know, they have one another to rely on”. I love their bond so much 😭
Jacob Tierney reflects on Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams’ friendship and the parallels between their bond and that of Ilya and Shane in a new interview with Etalk. 🥹
“Shane and Ilya and Hudson and Connor are in unique situations that are very hard to prepare for. Speaking for Hudson and Connor, I know how important their relationship is to each other, because nobody else can - even I can't relate to what they're going through. You know, they have one another to rely on. And it's very beautiful to see in real life. I think that for Shane and Ilya, it's something very similar. I think that’s also foundational to a love story, it also has to have friendship.“

i feel like the show would not have become what it has without either hudson or connor. their chemistry and dedication to their characters is absolute gold
Jacob Tierney on casting Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie in ‘Heated Rivalry’ ❤️ (via fearorlove_)
“I got so lucky with my leads. I remember very clearly the moment I knew Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams were the right actors. The most important thing to me is chemistry. Without that, two people can be so right for each part individually and just not work together. But these guys worked so well together. When they read, it was explosive. It was clear to me within the first 10 lines of dialogue. They lit each other up -feeding off each other's energy. They threw each other off, they caught each other before they could fall. They made each other blush. They made each other laugh. Magic. Alchemy.
Hudson snuck up on me. I watched his tape a few times, and I couldn't quite shake it. There was something about him that I connected with. I knew he was the best actor that read for the part, but there was something that I couldn't put my finger on that made me hesitate. It's funny because Shane is also more subtle as a character. Hudson captured that subtlety so well, and I think that's what I was picking up on the more times I watched his material.
[…] There was a real physical specificity to Rachel's Shane and Ilya that neither of these actors fit, but somehow, they worked perfectly anyway. They showed us everything that was already on the page and elevated it all with their talent. The casting process took months but once everyone saw them together, it was very clear: Forget what you had in your head. This is Shane, this is Ilya. And it's better than anything we ever had any right to expect.”
Jacob Tierney praises Connor Storrie’s Russian and his dedication to learning the language, as well as his work with dialect coach Kate Yablunovsky. 🥰
“Connor came into the audition with a very good accent, and he told me early on in the process that he loved languages and that he’d been Duolingo-ing Russian anyway, which was kind of a coincidence. We worked with Kate Yablunovsky, our wonderful Russian expert, and she and Connor went off and did their own thing together. I was amazed by what they accomplished.
[…] I was standing there on set with Kate Yablunovsky, our Russian coach. I turned to her to ask how Connor was doing, because obviously I don’t speak Russian, and she said, “He humbles me.” It’s a remarkable thing to hear about somebody who is speaking a language they’ve learned phonetically.”
