I see some Dylan Larkin apologists are saying that Wings fans will rue the day we lose Larkin just like Leafs fans have with Mitch Marner. That's an asinine comparison for three reasons.
1) Marner is much better than Larkin.
2) The Leafs were actually making the playoffs and Cup contenders with Marner. So, they had somewhere to drop. What's the worse case scenario in Detroit? We don't make the playoffs? Again? Oh, the humanity.
3) Marner was a UFA who the Leafs lost for pennies on the dollar. Larkin is under contract with a very team friendly contract in a league with a cap moving towards 130 million.
And do you think the same Yzerman (who pissed off Larkin by holding his feet to the fire for said team friendly extension) is just going to grant Larkin his wish and trade him to Minnesota or New Jersey without getting a high quality return? Yzerman is a son-of-a-bitch and if you think he is going to get bullied by a dude who cried when Bertuzzi was traded, you are sadly mistaken.
@EthanMaulbetsch Except we have a stacked AHL team and plenty to grow with. He’s got yips (some for good reason) but Steve tried to believe in him and elevate. It’s on him to take the opportunity. Without the NTC he would been moved last year. Idk he wasn’t pushed to demand his own trade
@JCSportsDetroit Make or break for Steve. If it works out, Larkin will be blamed for the drought for decades. He was never captain material. Soft. Great for giving high fives. Leaders need to be demanding.
@Will_Napthen21 My son told me he wanted a dog, said he would name it Larkin. We never got a dog. That was 6 years ago. No one should have been standing up for him. We were all stunned when he got the C.. Glorified goal hugger in the Olympics.
